Lcid -> Juan Montes Rodriguez Model 147 MR!!!! (Mar. 7 2015 18:11:53)

I just received my 2015 Model 147 MR, purchased directly from Juan Montes Guitars.
It is beautiful, sounds great and the workmanship is very impressive. Shipped from Spain to my door in North Carolina.

Contact Irene at the shop by email if you are interested.

Best wishes with your new guitar! At some point, will you please place a short video
so we can hear how it sounds. They look beautiful on his webpage.
Also, how long did it take from when you ordered it to when you received it?

( I just purchased a guitar from another company, but I was looking
at these for a future purchase.)

The 147 really sounds good, but I didn´t buy it because of the the action at bridge. It´s too high.

maduroflamenco -> RE: Juan Montes Rodriguez Model 147 MR!!!! (Apr. 7 2015 1:46:48)

I had to lower the bridge's bone height on my Montes 36 Arce to get the action at a workable height. It took me about 20 minutes of sanding and trials to get there.

What does this mean concretely? 7 mm, 10 or 12 mm?

maduroflamenco -> RE: Juan Montes Rodriguez Model 147 MR!!!! (Apr. 30 2015 20:12:29)

It means a height that subjectively works for me. The standard setup was simply just too high. I took my time by loosening up the strings, removing the bone, sanding it for 30-45 seconds, reinserting it, checking the height, and repeat. I cannot vouch for Montes' quality control and tolerances, so my changes, whatever they were in mm, may not apply to others.

Is that solid or laminate B/S?

bernd -> RE: Juan Montes Rodriguez Model 147 MR!!!! (May 2 2015 16:37:30)

laminated.

Congrat Lcid,

How much did you paid for it ?

The official site describes the 147 MR as solid woods all over: http://guitarrasjuanmontes.com/web/en/guitarra-flamenca/146-mr/

No, it´s not. The web page only says the top is solid. "Palosanto Cocobolo especial" doesn´t mean that it´s solid. It just means that it´s a special kind of cocobolo, very probably in its optical apperance.

pundi64 -> RE: Juan Montes Rodriguez Model 147 MR!!!! (Aug. 2 2016 21:24:01)

Yes they are solid German Spruce top, solid East Indian Rosewood , back and sides.
My model is (not the 147MR) but the 146M Flamenco Negra. I restrung it with D'Addario EJ25B strings.
This is a premiere guitar, plays beautifully, action is responsive, basses are deep and mellow (remember it is a flamenco negra), trebles are snappy and true, the neck, and body, fit me very well, I am a pleased customer. [:)]
I did one change with the tuners, I put on a set of Rubners.

These are the Rubner's I replaced the cheapo's with.

You cannot change very much the height between the tapa and the strings by sanding the saddle. This height is important and is what Bernd is talking about. What is it?

Here is my 146M negra, the action at the 12th is 2.80 - 3.0
