Juan plays a Faulk now?? Nice, go Bananasan! I may know the Pena you're talking about. I spent some time at a Pena that Juan regulars, very cool guy, was always willing to chat eat and drink. Good peeps him and Helen are.

It's the first time I hear that a Peña flamenca needs to be kept secret(doubt there would be a rush even if tomatito would play), it's another story if it doesn't accept visitors without membership. It's a nice story and good for you but what's the point besides that it was a Faulk guitar?

kinda figured as much, but what maturity out of the foro! Coulda been true, perception is in the eye of the beholder, once showed a guy this video: And he said "That's pretty good, but he can't do this!" I wanted to stab myself in the face.........

I have been studying from Juan Martin's book for about six months because its what my teacher uses. Juan is certainly a great guitarist and teacher, not a combination you always find together. There are so many fantastic flamenco guitarists with different styles its hard to compare one to another or rate one as being "better" Having said that I recently started studying from Paco Penas Toques Flamencos. Its a step up from Juan Martin's book in terms of difficulty, but the songs sound much more like real flamenco rather than beginners exercises. Paco actually explains this in his book that he had to compromise between writing music that a student could play but still sound real and interesting and I think he nailed it. I can't say I ever mastered the songs in Juan Martin's book and could keep playing them, but Toques Flamencos motivates me more to practice and to try and play better. I have always admired Paco Penas playing, its flawless no nonsense straight ahead traditional flamenco and nobody else does it better IMO.
