Neotriz -> Thinking to take a trip to Spain this year (Jan. 30 2015 16:15:30)

Hello all
Currently I've saved up enough money to make a trip to Spain sometime this year (if not sometime early 2016) to travel/learn flamenco again.

I've attended Carmen de las Cuevas back in 2010 in summer and though I had a really great time in Granada, I do feel that in those group sessions, I did not learned how to play flamenco other than some falsetas (but had an awesome time hanging out with the people out there).

I am thinking to be there for about 2~3 months, depending on my experience as well as my job-transition.

I've heard Sevilla or Jerez might be a good place to find private teachers that are willing to teach privately. Anyone has recommendation on this?

Luckily I am very good friends with palmista, Luis de la Tota. I may ask him for connection in Jerez.

Anyway, can any of you share your experience on going solo traveling in Andalucia?

I am fluent in Spanish so the language isnt a problem for me.

Thanks!

Luis is great, very cool funny guy! He's a friend of my friend Ethan. Anyways, through that whole group of people ever thought of Lebrija?

I spent around a year in andalucia, there's lots of flamenco aficionados in granada and cordoba but the place to study seriously and with people totally dedicated to flamenco is Jerez, most guitarists can give lessons if you ask them, the famous ones will take around 30 euros per hour for private classes but it's better to hang out with guitarists and learn for free, there are some bars where you can find flamenco aficionados and in general people are very open in cadiz area, not like in cordoba for example, there people are quite cold. After three months in jerez I never saw flamenco on the streets except in the holidays, when people do their zambomba thing.

Even though flamenco seems to be less popular every year in andalucia, you can find some in almost every city, visit peñas flamencas and ask people. I highly recommend Jerez and Granada, in my opinion they are nicer than city of cadiz, sevilla and cordoba.
you can find similar topics on travel if you scroll couple pages back in the general discussion.

Low. It's around 400-600 euros per month for apartment and the food is around 25% cheaper than in rest of europe in my experience, so it depends on how much one wants to eat and do other things but it's possible to live as cheap as one can handle.
