henrym3483 -> quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 13 2015 10:13:02)

hi guys,

have not been around lately as have had a few life crises in the past year on top of studying to become a barrister.

Due to circumstances beyond my control (work redundancy/layoff's) i'm looking to sell my anders eliasson blanca guitar as expediently as possible.

i doing this as a last resort as i need to pay my fee's for my final year in the course which commences in sept 2015. its gonna break my heart to do it, but like everything in life, sometimes you gotta sacrifice and let things go for the better.

so i'm just looking for some advice as regards guitar dealers or where to make a reasonably quick sale.

kind regards

Henry

That's a shame, Henry. A classified ad here would be a good start. Plenty of photos and a video, if possible. Good luck and may you be able to buy another one in a couple of years.

Ricardo -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 13 2015 12:13:50)

It's a great guitar, I remember playing it in Spain. I seriously hope you find a way to keep it.

El Kiko -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 13 2015 12:34:08)

Hi Henry .. I wondered what happened to you, havent heard from you fro a while /..

I know what you mean .. work has been funny fro me too , i was thinking of selling a guitar too ... but yours is much, much better ....
All i can say , as the others , would be to advertise here .. anyone who buys it would be getting a real nice guitar ...

I still think you should try to hold on to it until things pick up , or some alternative way of funding is available .. i often hear of peoples regrets for selling the best guitars ..

Nice to hear from you .. you should still post once in a while ...

divorce, wife running out of country with my boy, etc on top of being left bereft of any savings after the wedding from the previous year, while trying to continue with my professional legal education

pretty much sums up my absence [:-]

i hope things dont turn out for the worse but im covering my back.

henrym3483 -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 9:49:48)

got a few leads thus far with some vintage guitar sales shops in dublin. still waiting on whether our business is closing or not. its a god damn nightmare. hopefully it will not come to selling it but how long would you expect to sell a flamenco guitar, 3 months, 6 months a year?

El Kiko -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 11:45:41)

yes tricky inside of Ireland ..
Advertise it here and photos sound clips etc .. but your buyer will be abroad ...
or contact any other flamenco teacher or player to see if any of their students are looking for one ...

Dublin I suppose ... I think I am the only flamenco player in Munster ...( which makes me the best [:-][:-] , good grief}

if you know who it went to you may have the chance of buying it back in a few years when things get better for you .. and I'm sure they will

Put it on Ebay, ship international, btw Ebay take 23%

tele -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 13:34:39)

they take around 15% with paypal fees. ebay.de allows bank transfer only option, comes down to 10%

revendel -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 13:42:01)

Apologies yep, its 10% value of product + 3% for paypal fees here in the UK, probably similar for Ireland.

Point is, work that out, add transportation charges of about 100, packing charges and then add the whole thing to your asking price.

You get exposure to a wider market.

But a flamenco guitar, god knows how long it'll take to sell, you'll probably have better luck with fellow Celtic contacts. I used to live there for several years. The Irish rarely listen to their own music, flamenco is a really tough sell.

that is the problem , its very much a minority thing over here,
i met henrym3483 and know of John Walsh , neither of them are particularly near me .
there's probably 1 or 2 more in the capital ..but the market for sales here will be small ..
more chance of selling a Yamaha to a beginner than a hand made guitar ,
unfortunately..

I wish there were more ,,,

there would be a better market for this 'over the water' in England i would think and postage is not too bad , there is a lot of movement to and fro , i often get stuff shipped from over there that i just cant buy here.

krichards -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 14:29:38)

Selling any guitar is difficult here in the UK too. We are told the economy is growing but its not obvious.

If at all possible you must hang on to this guitar. If you sell you will lose out with maybe a disappointing price, selling costs etc.
Selling on Ebay is a desperate measure. I've considered it myself but so far, I haven't succumbed.

I hope you can avoid selling, but if you have to, good luck.

revendel -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 14:48:30)

Yeah, thats why I suggested it. It seems like you dont have the luxury of sourcing a good buyer and you need to get rid of it so Ebay gives you the highest probability of sale in a huger market.

Morante -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 16:04:02)

If you are going to be a barrister and in future life filthy rich, I cannot imagine a bank which would not love to have your account and lend you anything you asked. Your guitar is only worth 2000 euros, a mickey mouse amount for a greedy bank. I would not part with such a guitar.

gerundino63 -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 17 2015 20:20:05)

I feel very sorry for you Henry......hope the new year will get some solutions for you.
My thoughts are with you. Keep strong!

Peter

Impossible to say. It can be sold tomorrow or in 2017. You never know. But a very reknown builder told me 10 years ago that all good guitars end up being sold. He has been right. So far, I have sold everything exept 2.

I would follow Morante´s advice. Or at least, if you feel like you should sell it, try to get a decent price for it. Put it in the classifieds here and not on some Ebay auction. Remember, you have the whole world as your potential buyers.

Last. Hang on Henry.. You are a good lad and the sun will shine on you as well one welvet irish morning. Do as your old countrymen did in a complicated situation, lilt a tune and forget about missery. laydi diddely day daba lay di diddely dodiday. Remember that its in your blood to get the best out of nothing.
I´ll play a happy reel for you later on today. It´ll be the foxhunters in A major.

please , offer it on ebay,

my heart is with you, hope your son is fine[>:]

henrym3483 -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 27 2015 9:08:48)

thanks for the replies so far guys, still waiting on the company to confirm the closure or not of the business. to be honest i'm sick to my guts of the whole situation.

hopefully, i can end up selling my motorbike instead of my guitar (as i have a car) but sales are slow in this area too. Also thinking of selling most of my flamenco books + dvd's as well as i would prob get at least 500€ for the lot.

i cant get a bank loan without a regular source of income [:'(] and they will not bet on you simply because of your career.[&:]

i'm kinda sick of living in ireland with the corrupt politicians on fat salaries and pensions of over €100k and €250k while the average man like me and others struggle to make ends meet and get some career on the road. as i said it makes me sick to my guts [:'(]

Guest -> RE: quick sale of flamenco guitar (Jan. 27 2015 10:45:37)

Really sorry to hear Henry
Maybe some of us here understand the misfortune
But still deeply sympathise

After a divorce - single parenting - and a $47,000 personal debt -
Always managed to have a good instrument - kept me sane for sure - or added to the insanity - not sure which
I really hope you manage to hang onto it - think of it as your survival kit for the road ahead
10 years down the track you'll look at it say ' and I nearly had to sell you ...'

Maybe the motor bike is a quicker sale
People need transport - flamenco guitars not so readily needed

If it comes to creating an add
Let us know and I'll share it this side of the world
But as mentioned with ebay and postage fees ... The bike may be a much better option

The situation is the same all over the world and it makes me sick too, especially now that the richest 1% owns half of the worlds money.
Best of luck to you and stay strong
