Hello everyone!
My level is intermediate and I'm looking for some practical method for this level. In recent years I have bought methods as miguel angel cortes book-dvd, few dvds from manolo franco, Herencia gitana (enrique melchor)... in all of them there are quite usable and other impossible things for me. And now, I'm seriously thinking of buying this book but I have some doubts.
1- the falsetas have the same style as in the encuentro's video?
2-most of his falsetas are from his album el camino?
3-if I have his book el camino, it makes sense to buy this book?
4-Someone knows some current method most appropriate for intermediate level?

Just to be clear, as far as Paco Serrano goes there are three options and I think you are confusing content of all three.

First of all there's the two Encuentro products here:

1.) La Guitarra Flamenca (DVD plus transcriptions of a selection of Paco's 'performance' falsetas for several palos, plus instruction and exercises for basic technique)

2.) Complete note-for-note transcriptions/scores for the relevant pieces on his Mi Camino CD. No instructional notes, tutoring etc.

...and the you have the instructional DVD plus tab that was brought out last year :

3. ) Manual de la Guitarra Flamenca

I have all three - the latter one, apart from some brief very basic demos of compas patterns, is basically a collection falsetas that Paco wrote as didactic material i.e. these are not transcriptions of his performance/CD falsetas, as far as I can tell. Its mostly intermediate level I'd say, pretty accessible stuff.

Thanks so much, I have the first 2, so La guitarra flamenca... and the tabs of the album camino.
My question is if he does not repeat to many falsetas from the all books of encuentro in the last one (manual de la guitarra flamenca).
Sorry, my english is terrible. I´m spanish and I live in Poland.
So, the question is if I have his book mi camino and La guitarra flamenca de Paco Serrano already, it makes sense to buy this book?

I have both the la guitarra flamenca and the Manual de la Guitarra flamenca

In my honest opinion, although the latter is more accessible to learn the falsetas, most of the falsetas did not really inspire me that much. I thought they were boring (sorry Maestro..)

Guitarra flamenca, on the other hand, I felt it was much more interesting to learn.

So if you are looking something in the level of the guitarra flamenca, Manual de la Guitarra flamenca might not be for you.

As far as I can see they are different falsetas, written specifically as student material so there shouldn't be duplication. I would say they are mostly far more playable than the first two you mention, but also I would agree with Neotriz about them being less inspiring.

I think you may find there’s a big difference in price; that may be a consideration.

If not, I would go for the Encuentro one.

Thanks for the answer, but I musn´t choose any of paco serrano. I mean with intermedium level what method can be interesting and practical in the market. It´s complicate because I have already all the encuentro books, oscar herrero, graf-martinez, few videos from manolo franco collection.
Any idea? What you will buy in my situation?

I know the feeling of being overwhelmed and wanting the perfect method and
getting more an more material.

Sometimes I think its better to just select something short and simple
from what you have and really really work on it.

Sounds like you have loads of stuff.

Do you have a teacher ?

No, I don't have a teacher, you are right. I have a lot of material, too much. But in this case I'm trying to choose my birthday's present.

What do you define as "intermediate level" in flamenco? I am really skeptic with the concepts as 'level' in 'flamenco methods'. There are semi-professional 'tocaores', no soloists, which level is usually stratospheric for most of the amateurs.:) or with a so good sense of buleria's compas that some academic guitarrist can not reach them.

If your are simply an amateur without teacher or flamenco environment, SELECT and try to play the more convenient falsetas for your level (usually those that you love) that you could find everywhere, and improve the basic techniques to play them and a correct embracing of the compás. The building block is the falseta.

As one of the greatest masters said "Lo más importante para tocar la guitarra es que aunque se hagan cosas sencillas se hagan realmente bien" (The most important in the guitar is to do the things really well, even if they are very simple).

Try to play your own flamenco. This is the actual method.

Hi, I agree with you. If we enter the sake of discussion that concept I have or you have as intermediate level, never reach a conclusion, but that's not important. Basically what I wanted to say is that I know and play falsetas of the most typical palos. Ofcourse I have to continue practicing becouse I'm a simple amateur player. Of the methods that I have to learn I play the things that I can and I like. So I look for a new method to see new variations. As for the composition I have little musical knowledge and I find a great effort to create falsetas. I have few of my own but just 1 or 2 can make me feel proud.
In general I guess I've had this idea of buying a new method becouse I have to choose a birthday present and what better than anything related to the guitar if it is our passion.

What about the hackneyed Granados's method? did you already try it?. It has the same problem, but for me is like good books , you always find something new.

So, IMO buy a good score from a great masters ... and find your falsetas there. They have from really easy to impossible... [:D]
