jmb -> The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 20 2014 22:44:50)

Hi! Due to the circustances I do not play my Conde guitar quite often. It is not at home, it is with my family in Madrid. I play it once per month more or less (Yes it is sad, but that's life).

The curious fact is that I leave the guitar in its case and a found the 5h string broken repetedely when I open it. It is broken in the middle, not in the bridge or in the nut. It did not happen before and the case seems ok. Does anybody know what could be happening?

My 5th is usually a high tension Hannabach, but it has happened with 5th from La Bella sets too.

Are they all 5th strings from the same batch? Maybe the batch was defective...

jmb -> RE: Mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 21 2014 1:35:53)

It could be because I preferably buy them in the same guitar shop. But it has happenend with LaBella from another guitar shop.

You may have something in the case, you didn't notice?

Someone else is messing when your not there

estebanana -> RE: The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 21 2014 11:22:23)

Try loosening the string when you are away.

Usually that kind of stuff happens because of the Guitarra Chupacabra is living in your closet. Have a quemada party, drink some machaco, use some Lysol in the closet and the chupacabra will leave.

Jaja!!! It a Felipe Conde's, The case has key and I checked the case (one of them with thickness velvet)... At this moment Estebanana's theory is the most feasible. The Chupacabras seems to be a little bit posh... My Alhambra is unharmed. [:D]

Let's see in the future.

Ricardo -> RE: The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 21 2014 15:00:10)

This always happens to me too when I leave the guitar in the case untouched for a while and the weather changes. It is due to humidity changes. Normally the D string goes but has happened to almost any string in the past. Some rare occasions two strings go.

Ricardo, stop trying to come up with some rational reason with your stupid science.

It's the String Chupacabra. Even Carl Sagan said that.

El Kiko -> RE: The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 21 2014 17:09:15)

\well cant argue with Carl Sagan ....

course hes in Madrid so it would be that bear , claws break the strings , ja sabes jmb el oso y el madroño ...cuidado tio .. !!!

Chilli Fingers -> RE: The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 22 2014 3:18:16)

Its definatly the String Chupacabra. When you leave the guitar unused for an extended period, sprinkle a ring of salt around the entire case. Be sure to not leave any breaks in the salt ring or it wont work.

Holy water may offer some benefits but the salt ring is usually more reliable.

And wear a garlic necklace and have a queimada ceremony.

Thanks friends, I will talk with some specialists in black magic. [8D] Now I am sure. It is always the 5th, and it has bring the satanic pentagon to my mind... May be too many siguirillas has been played in that guitar and my blanca has turn into a NEGRA, strictly speaking.

Anyway, Ricardo, do you have any recomendation?.

Chilli Fingers -> RE: The mistery of the broken string... (Dec. 22 2014 9:35:30)

Ill chip in while you await ricardos answer, but im sure he will agree with me.

Finely ground sea salt is best, rock salt leaves too many gaps. If you have to use iodised table salt it should still work but you may need to do a double ring or make your first ring thicker. The anti caking agent in common table salt can bring things undone so you may need to reapply more often. And don't even think about using chicken salt.

Paranormal? Well, I hope not for you and my sake. LOL!

I've started having the same problem with Hannabach 815 high tensions on my classical guitars. I quit using them and the breakage stopped. I'll have to say I used Hannabachs for a long time, over twenty years. Something must have changed in their forumla in past few years. Also, been having breakage problems with Thomastik-Infeld too.

But, no problem with LeBella strings. I use the 820B series.

Yes, put some gypsy treated rosemary and a 5E bill in the soundhole and leave it in there while you are gone.

Or you can loosen the strings when you travel.

It signifies the magic protection over the "5th" string. [;)]
