I saw this film at a private showing just before Christmas and it is fabulous. many of the flamencos in the film like La Porrona and El Curro were in the audience and afterwards took the stage to answer questions, but mostly they just laughed their heads off, it was like a continuation of the film. I have seen many films on flamenco which romanticize and come close to being pretentious but this was basic, down to earth, as real as the people themselves.

For all of you who know the Sacromonte it is a film to cherish and those who have never visited then its an amazing introduction.

I particularly loved the section with el Niño de las almendras, my neighbour and dear friend who passed away after a long and wildly exciting life. I miss him every day !

Dear Kate,

Thanks for posting your comment. But even more, it is good to hear from you on the Foro. You have been missing in action for many moons, and I (and I'm sure others among our more discerning members) have missed your observations and deep knowledge of all things flamenco, as well as other comments regarding Spain and things Spanish.

Once again, thanks for posting. Good to hear from you.

Cheers,

Bill

Post more about my old home, Kate. Missed you [;)]

Kate -> RE: "Sacromonte. Los sabios de la tribu" (Jan. 8 2015 10:16:36)

Thanks for the messages Simon and Bill. I,ve had a difficult few years with parents in hospital and have spent a lot of time in Wales with them. Back in Granada Harold has been recording more and more rock, although last year he did a flamenco guitar album for a Canadian who lives in Granada. The crisis has hit flamencos badly and many have moved to Madrid for work or even as far afield as japan. the good news is hopefully the Eshavira will open its doors again this year, we have missed our second home and flamenco hang out. We have lost a good few friends and flamencos over the past few years as well, the older ones passing on and leaving huge gaps.

i will try to visit the foro more often, haven,t had much to say recently. When I saw Esteban,s post on this film I thought I,d post to say what a great portrait of the Sacromonte elders, am so glad they made it before we lost more of them.

hasta luego chicos de un Granada fria y bella !

Would love to see the whole of this. Any idea how I can see it here in the UK? I presume its been shown on Spanish TV?

Kate -> RE: "Sacromonte. Los sabios de la tribu" (Jan. 8 2015 18:38:24)

I don't think it has been shown on Spanish TV. We had two private showings for the neighbours and those in the film.

An american friend of mine found it online and paid a few dollars to view it but the link doesnt work any more.

I will find out if its going to be available as a DVD, I certainly want a copy. I,ll keep you all posted.

Best wishes to your parents Kate. I so miss my view of the Caballo, its shoulders dusted with snow at this time of year, waiting for the almond blossom to arrive in the valley [sigh].

Things changed fast in Lecrín for me too (no-one was immune), so I had to leave but I might have stayed forever, under different and improbable circumstances. Un abrazo fuerte.

Sorry to hear about the parents - that has all been a long time ago for me now.

Was the Canadian David Sinclair? A good friend of mine who I met in 2010 (while on sabbatical) and stayed with again in 2012. Boy I do miss the place.
