Nearly for 2 years now I have some right hand problems especially on tremolo playing. My fine fluid version changed to a botcher-like crap version. Sometimes it works to prepare mentally a group of the 5 strokes in my and then the next group, but a simple falseta is far away of dreaming about the way it was before.

Is anyone beaten by Focal Dystonia? What did you on practicing or therapy?

I am making a good recovery, I was never an advanced player but I do play better now than before. (E.g. I performed last night; terrible monitor sound, a little nervous, forgetful- the worst circumstances but still the hands behaved and music came out! There were mistakes, musical and technical, but none I could blame on dystonia)

My experience is that one has to stop playing all current repertoire (certainly any music or technique that elicits dystonia), essentially start again from scratch and it takes years to get over. Of course I wish it never happened but recovery has been a rewarding journey.

After all flamenco is a challenging teacher with or without injury.

Acceptance, patience, discipline, passion and enjoyment.

Thank you, Ed. I´m located in Fulda and have already found these adresses. My problem is time. I´m currently on a re-education program with complex content to learn. So there´s not much space to fix a date. Hannover seems to be an option.

A little improvement has occured as a side effect of some hypnosis session. I attribute this to the result of deep relaxation.

Time is a relative beast: The longer you wait, the harder it get's to treat dystonia.

I got mild focal distonia in my right hand, which went through various stages, to the present stasis, which is minor on the scale of human suffering, but prevents me from playing arpeggios. These are pretty basic to flamenco, so I basically stopped playing. (I wasn't terribly good anyway.) At one point I got botox injection in my hand to see if that helped, and it was very bad; my index finger was dead meat for months. So now I play jazz guitar, flat-picking. Good luck with it.

Jazz guitar is no option for me. I hope for being recovered anyway to be able to play at my previous level.

Every musician's nightmare[:@] I have yet to learn flamenco tremolo: another technique on a long to do list. However, but I know for classical tremolo that relaxing the hand completely, helps immensely and stops the skipping tendency.

Again, maybe no help for flamenco tremolo or FD issues but I thought I would mention it.
