barblackmore -> RE: Which Ramon Montoya CD to get? (Nov. 29 2014 11:41:32)

I have the Chant Du Monde Ramon Montoya compilation, and i would not reccomend it. The Chant Du Monde series is amazing, it has provided us with the definitive compilations of Ricardo and Sabicas, and it has made a wonderful legacy for the old cantaores But the Montoya album is made of very, very worn 78s. I understand that if you put an album made of 78s records you won´t expect pristine sound quality, but some labels have made almost miracles out of this 78s (Has anyone ever heard a YAZZO label blues cd-made from 78s before 1929) I personally prefer the Sonifolk edition http://www.sonifolk.com/iflam17.htm No, it´s not one of those reissues where they take the noise out and leave a lifeless and dull recording. They are noisy and old, but have a "depth" that i don´t find on the Chant Du Mone compilation. And being a 2cd compilation, it leaves space for some Chacon duets and even some other duets with Saxophonist Fernando Vilches! You tought Paco invented flamenco jazz fusion? Wrong! Jaja
