Yeah, i originally emailed Ricardo about this tune,
and he said nobody had transcribed it yet.

I figured since it hadnt been done, i could take a crack at it.

I've been aware of Todd's technique for about 3 years or more now.
I must admit at first I was both shocked and amazed that anyone could play so well with an alternative technique.
I don't know how he does it, but he does!
My ears tell me that.
Now I just listen to the music and don't question it anymore LOL!
The music and the musicality says it all IMO.
I think perhaps when folk move on from their teens/twenties folk/blues/rock, to Classical or Flamenco, they become a bit like a reformed alcoholic or smoker and sorta look down their noses at folk who "still play with a plectrum".
Then after seeing a video from Todd, kinda get irritated and upset that they can't play anywhere near that good, even though the employ a "traditional" technique, and then waste time working out why he shouldn't sound so good LOL!
Believe me, Todd is 50% technique and 50% musicality...(Timing, Rhythm, Tone, Phrasing)
A lot of folk go for 100% technique and that's where I believe they delude themselves IMO.

my two cents

Ron

I been transcribing some ramon jimenez tangos , problem is some of it sounds kind of empthy without the bass.

Ron.M -> RE: Question for ToddK (Dec. 26 2005 20:10:34)

There was a "high brow" radio programme on tonight with the subject being Paul McCartney explaining his compositions and how he did them.
The classically trained and educated interviewer expressed some doubt but amusement how certain things "worked" although they are not "musically valid".

Guess that's why he's just a Classical interviewer, and McCartney is McCartney..[:D]

cheers

koella -> RE: Question for ToddK (Dec. 26 2005 20:16:48)

I tried a pick to play flamenco. It seems to work. Alzapua and picado have now become one and the same technique. So everything becomes more well-organized now.
In addition to the pick I planned to attach a little propeller on my pinky to do the tremolo.[&:]

(sorry no offense, I just had to make this joke)

ToddK -> RE: Question for ToddK (Dec. 26 2005 20:53:14)

Hey, a propeller on the pinky could work!![8D]

Wow, that video is great-you should burn that and sell it-what a great lesson in pick and fingers playing.
