DESCRIPTION:

In winter 2012 I was invited by my longtime hero Vicente Amigo to his house in Cordoba to present him my ideas of flamenco guitar amplification system. That was the 2nd time after 10 years (early 2000s we meet in Switzerland after his concert) that we meet. During 2012-2014 we've meet dozen of times, we worked together to create an amplification (pickup) system that suits the master's needs best, ending up with launching a "Vicente Flamenco Doble" System (EUR 599.-, available through www.vicenteamigo.com) this year ready for sale. We've ended up as friends and hermanos (in his own words) and I consider this collaboration with a Superstar as Amigo to be the culmination of my career as a small maker of ac. guitar pickups since 1998. No matter my references & credits list spots A-list of guitarists elite Worldwide incl. Benson, Clapton, Knopfler, Metheny, Coryell, McLaughlin and many more ... getting a recognition of Vicente Amigo for amplifying a flamenco or a "nylon-str. guitar" to sound as it is - a nylon-str guitar, is the success never reached by any other pickups maker before. Certainly its true that amplified ac. guitar sound, no matter steel-string or nylon or reso, is a very personal thing, due to the player's choice of a certain pickup (brand); we see this on examples of Chet Atkins (Gibsons), Django Reinhardt, Marcel Dadi (Ovation), RMS and Godin users, numerous other stars using all possible pickup models. But when it comes to amplifying a nylon-str guitar everyone agrees that this one MUST sound as real, like Segovia, Paco de Lucia and traditional classical players. In the meantime VIP users of my pickups confirm that the sound is better then using even two Neumann micros in front of guitar. Its easy to say why: micros pickup the "air" in front of the instrument, and each 10cm the sound is different. How many micros does one need to amplify the full freq appearance of a guitar? Ten, twenty ??? My pickups (especially High End CP-1 in combination with internal mini micro or CS sensor) transmitt all the wood vibrations and finest details of player's touch, and the result is 100% sound of the guitar over the P.A. that has been amplified. None of any other pickup systems does this job as accurate as my pickups. For my works I've been nominated 3 x times for Innovatons Award of German Mittelstand Industry within last 5 years. THE Conde Hermanos guitar offered here for auction is THE one I've been using for presentation of my system to Vicente Amigo few times. During my 2nd visit late 2012 Vicente was convinced that a combination of a transducer (undersaddle) and CS sensor (my latest invention, a custom sensor covered in carbon fibre) had satisfied his ears and his visions of amplified flamenco guitar, after having tested all the available pickups on the market. This particular guitar is equipped with a CP-1 High-End pickup and a mini cond. micro from my own production. The buyer, and only the buyer will get a video snaplett (short) showing Vicente playing thsi guitar in his studio and admiring its natural timbre of amplified sound. I would like to point that plans were already made (with two luthiers and one famous guitarist, both based in Spain) to present this system to One-And-Only Paco de Lucia, who showed interest in testing my system, after being introduced to it by another famous Spanish flamenco guitarist. I did meet Paco in the late 1990s and have made something for him as well, and unfortunately I never meet him again, I was always waiting until I'd get introduced to him to test my system, and in the meantime Paco is now playing guitar in heaven. For all my VIPs and for me Paco will always remain the best and most versatile / innovative guitarist in the history of guitar. Needless to say that this particular guitar is a collectable item and superior stage tool, action is setup low especially for Vicente Amigo demands of strings action, but it can easily be increased to like 3mm on XIIth fret which was Paco's favourite action, so far I know from Ruben Diaz - who is the only certified disciple of Paco to teach Paco's playing style in detail, a very pleasant man that I recently meet in Malaga and also user of my pickups. This guitar is very custom, modified in details for both: eye-catcher and superior tool for stage and studio. I can modify it with add. CS sensor (as Vicente uses) on extra endpin (Vicente also has 2 endpins for 2 systems), so far for now this is a stereo endpin with TIP (pickup) RING (micro) configuration and user will need a y-cable to comfortably send 2 signals into board. There is two mini gain pots near soundhole for each signal and 9V battery holder. Preferred to be picked up by the buyer, but can be FedEx-ed anywhere on buyer's risk of damage. This guitar has a moderate price, as any newer made high-end Conde or Ramirez to remain within a reach of buyer's clientele who demands the best in Flamenco Guitar, however the collector's value of this guitar exceeds same of any newer made guitar anywhere in the World, so consider the added-value of being played by a celebrity as Vicente Amigo as a benefit and privilege to own a beauty as this.

I have tried some major pickup systems like Fishman, Shadow, LR Baggs on flamencas. By my opinion the Carlos belongs to the high end range, absolutely one of the best you can get.

See: http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=267234&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1

Yes they are supposed to be high end, certainly very expensive and installation is a pig as the UST is coaxial so you need a special tool to carve a circular slot in the saddle groove (though obviously you wouldn't have these problems buying a guitar with one already installed)

A friend of mine who plays new age instrumental music has one. He has spent an absolute fortune trying many different systems and swears that the Carlos VIP is the best he has tried. He has a video on Youtube demoing it, though as I recall there are also more videos of Vicente using one around too.

Note Carlos appeared here on the Foro, briefly, and posted several times promoting his pick ups, if you search you will find them.
