Pablo -> Camps Primera Blanca and Primera Negra (Nov. 2 2014 13:31:13)

Hi,

I would like any information about the Camps Primera Blanca and Primera Negra.

I am new to flamenco guitar although I have been playing rock/blues guitar for 28 years.

I currently own a Yamaha 172SF which is a fantastic guitar for the price although I would like to get something a bit better.

I am also open to learning classical guitar pieces as well as flamenco and other latin music. I watched video of George Sakellariou play a classical piece on a Primera Blanca on youtube and thought it sounded great.

Does anyone have or played these 2 guitars and can pitch in advice as to which one would be better to get for a good flamenco sound although versatile enough to do classical music. I understand negras are usually the logical choice but after watching the video on youtube the blanca sounded good too

Hi Pablo,

regarding the Youtube videos you always should be a little bit doubtfully. Many guitarsist do not leave the sound unedited. So it is possible that basses and trebles were increased to match the personal taste of the player. On the other hand integrated microphones of camcorders and webcams very often are of poor quality and influence the sound e. g. by editing sustain or boosting the upper middle frequencies.

I recently have checked both guitars. The blanca has clearly more aggression while it has a typical less amount of basses as this is usual to cypress wood. The negra provides a higher frequency range with clearly stronger bases although the overall sound is strictly very well balanced with a bit less agression but absolutely enough sharpness. This is very common for negras. The negra will be my next baby. Both guitars provide a very comfortable playability for both hands.

If you are interested, then I can procure you via my personal reference the best price in Europe for both guitars via a famous German dealer. Just let me know if my connection may come as needed.
