During the last 45 years I have had some great teachers, and played professionally for well known dancers and singers from Spain. I still perform from time to time in public but I play more often for families – our own and people from Spain. To me the most important aspect of flamenco is playing with the proper feeling and emotion. You know when you have attained that when a flamenco from Spain tells you so. The flash, glitz, fast picados and over amplified sound do not interest me. The simplest approach to flamenco done correctly is outstanding in comparison to poorly done music meant to attract those that know nothing about flamenco. By the way my wife is from Peru and her family is from Zaragoza, Spain. Being trained in baile y cante my wife is my greatest critic! Next Friday we celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary.
