[:D][8D] Why, what happened? [:)]

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 7:57:49)

this new version has a tad more reverb....

liv -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 8:29:41)

Very nice!
I never tried that vertical way of placing microphones in a/b on a guitar, it sounds very good.

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 8:37:22)

I read an interview with Alison Krauss' recording engineer where he described that mike position and use it since then for all my flamenco gtr recordings. It is always worth to look over the rim of a tea cup....I learned al lot from those bluegrass engineers....

Lovely playing and great recordings from you as usual, very detailed.

I'm intrigued by your vertical pair too - is that lower mike direct at the soundhole? If yes do you have to EQ a lot to cut low end and reduce boom?

Oh and what reverb is that [:)]?

Arash -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 9:26:47)

Treasure videos.
Also perfect sound.
Thanks for sharing.

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 9:35:28)

Both mics are pointing towards the 12.-15. fret region. I did a bit of mid/side eq-ing, reducing the lows on the side signal @ 100 hz. and a gentle low shelf on the mid side @ 125 Hz
I use three comps: the LA2A followed by the 1176 on the Gtr chanel and the Neve 33609 on the 2Buss
The reverb is the R2 from Exponential Audio

Glad you like the sound !

Thanks for posting these, Thomas! I'm looking forward to the others.

Your recordings are some of the BEST out there man...

Thanks very much Ramzi...

But it also takes a monster player like Antonio to get such a sound.
The recording session with him was a real treat !

Sr. Martins -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 12:55:21)

What's the story behind that mic positioning?

Getting away from the usual stereo wideness?

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 14:32:41)

yes, this position gives you a nice centered sound - without the low frequencies shifted towards one side like in trad. A/B or X/Y. It feels kind of mono in the mix without being mono...if that makes sense to you...

Sr. Martins -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 14:54:12)

Yes, I think the exageratted stereo thing gets boring pretty quick.

Everytime we see a video in HD with one guy sitting with a guitar, expect to hear a huge unnatural stereo space with an almost binaural thing to it.

To me it's less distracting when it's just a mono track or something like this vertical position you're using.

Ricardo -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 16:31:40)

His playing seems a bit reserved from what I am used to, but the sound and images are great. The new buleria falsetas were pretty hot too. I take it these guitars are for sale? I like the Rodriguez best.

Ricardo

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 17:30:43)

Ricardo,
absolutely, the Rodriguez is a killer guitar.
Amir Haddad recorded the Colombianas on his "9 Guitarras" with her as well.
Not sure though if the Mundo Flamenco owner could bear to part with her...
btw Antonio also recorded a Alegrías on a 1972 Conde Faustino which you may like also ;-)

Ricardo -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 18:35:57)

I love that alegrias. But the guitar is somehow lacking in the trebles although it could be the strings? I also notice the tie block has been modified. Normally those are my favorite guitars.

Ricardo

Thomas -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 19:01:15)

I can't provide any information about the strings - all I can say is that all the guitars I record for MundoFlamenco usually have fresh strings that still loose their tension during the takes....

bernd -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 22 2014 19:38:36)

Thanks for sharing!

I think the bridge on the Conde 1972 is not original. They usually doesn´t have a 12 hole tie block.

Andy Culpepper -> RE: First of a series of videos I recorded with Antonio Rey (Oct. 23 2014 22:45:38)

Great recordings, thank you for posting!
