Guest -> Zambra juan Maya (Oct. 3 2014 1:45:50)

Hi
A friend gave me three volumes of flamenco transcriptions
Seem to be Japanese transcribers
Read through some and seems a great acquisition
I am currently adding a Zambra to my rep
Instead of sourcing the juan martins or juan serrano I like the sound of the juan Maya one in the volume
So wish to Persue this
I have no audio
So my question is
Does anyone know where I may find an audio of the score ?

Excuse the JPEG !? but figure these books have been around for sometime so a member may have worked through this
Thank you in advance

Thats the Zambra I play....actually Juan Maya taught me some of it himself.
The audio can be found on "The art of Flamenco" CD 1993 EMOCION 893-002 but this Cd is now out of print.
A copy is available here on ebay if you buy it quick

Either way time to re activate that ebay account
Thank you so much

It’s on Amazon UK too, ASIN B000024D30 (you can type this directly into the search box).

The transcription is from Vol. II of the four-volume Gendai Guitar series (B006RA8NXI in the US, but currently unavailable). They are indeed excellent transcriptions.

There are also three more volumes, even more obscure, by Akira Seta and also published by Gendai:

• La Zarzamora (4874710719 US)
• Pasión Flamenca (4874710735 US)
• Inspiration [sic] (B008LULGDG UK)

P.S. The CD's on Amazon US, too, under the same ASIN, but the title’s wrong. I’ll use Update Product Info to fix it.

Thank you to everyone for the information
Much more than I initially expected
The books are great for sure
Something about standard notation which seems to click much easier with me..
Might search for the missing volume
Again really value the information
Al

It’s tough to find. I got my copy from GSP in San Francisco several years ago, but it was out of print even then. You might nonetheless try giving them a call.

Amazon seems never to have listed it at all, although it lists (or has listed) the others.

FWIW Vol. III is still available from fretsonly.com in England, and from Amazon (UK & US). The contents are listed in my review.

If you want a list of the contents of Vol. IV, let me know.

Paul Magnussen -> RE: Zambra juan Maya (Oct. 6 2014 19:31:48)

OK, Alval says that if the list is handy it might be of benefit, so here you go:

Melchor de Marchena: Bulerías from Guitarra Gitana
Sabicas: Fantasía Inca [Oyanguren] from The Art of the Guitar
Sabicas: Alegrías from Sabicas Vol. 1
Sabicas: Granadina «Paseo de los tristes» from Flamenco Fever
Sabicas: Colombiana
Serranito: Sevillanas
Cano: Café de Chinitas from Sonoridades
Peña: Rumba «La Lola» from Flamenco
Peña: Guajira «Mantilla y Peina» from Fabulous Flamenco and Azahara
Trad.: Rumba «El inclusero» from Canciones andaluzas
Manolo Sanlúcar: Zapateado «Andares gaditanos» from Mundo y formas, Vol. 1
Manolo Sanlúcar: Rondeña «Oración» from Tauromagia
Brahms: Hungarian Dance

If anyone knows what albums the unascribed pieces come from, please post.

Thanks for responding to the pm Paul
A great collection of material
Thanks for writing the list
Maybe volume 4 May appear somewhere

Paul Magnussen -> RE: Zambra juan Maya (Oct. 7 2014 15:30:16)

You’re welcome. If you want to know what albums the pieces come from in the three volumes you have, look at my Amazon US reviews (search in Books for “Gendai Flamenco”).

guitarbuddha -> RE: Zambra juan Maya (Oct. 7 2014 15:42:58)

I wish I saw more Japanese flamenco editions around.

Editorial standards are so much higher than Mel Bay et al. And they are a great antidote to three hundred page doorsteps which have maybe twenty minutes of music.

Good job supporting them Paul.

D.
