Hello all, I have a question after a long time.
I want to know that which bass string has the most tingy sound and not neccessarily good for long play, Since Im looking for concert strings.
My experience is that polished strings of the same models have the less tingy sound compared to that of non-polished, so i won't go around polished strings.
I would really appreciate if u share your experience.

It's very difficult to explain sounds by words, i don't know how exactly I can describe it, but it is more noticable in guitars rather than strings,
For instance Felipe conde and Hermanos Sanchis ( which i have ) give good tingy sound for bass strings while I don't hear that sound in Ramirez or Reyes. ( Or in classical guitars I don't hear it )

But it can be as a charactrestic of the strings also, for example when u put new strings on your guitar ( i mean basses) they have a high tingy sound, after a while they are getting to lose their ringing sound,

And by tingy I don't mean loud sound or bright sound,

So by logic, you make no sense looking for a specific brand of string. Maybe what you mean is what string will make your guitar sound like Paco's conde? That's easy....Luthier. Or if you like his older sound, La Bella 820.

But as I said what I experienced is that bass strings regardless of how loud or bright they sound they can have a tingy or ringing sound or whatever name you want to call it. For instance when I buy cheap bass strings they don't produce this sound, or even comparing expensive ones, Savarez Cantiga gives more of this sound than other savarezes ,D'addarios, or hannabaches,

I have not experienced Labella or Luthier though.

Im really looking forward to sb in this forum understands what i mean :D

hmm. maybe by tingy you mean something like metallic sound?

I have used savarez corum and they sound much better and bright for longer than luthier or labella to me. They also feel a bit smoother, maybe you can try them, they can be described metallic

What a relief is when i feel you have eventually understood what i mean. I didn't know you call it as metallic sound, however, Im trying to buy savarez corum but one of your friends in the first post says that they are not metallic in this link :

Well if you want metallic then corum sounds quite metallic and flamenco to me(I've tried about six different basses and they seem most metallic to me). I also tried savarez cantiga but couldn't hear much of a difference. Some say savarez HT(not ht for hi tension) classic strings are the brightest but I don't know about metallic. After all, basses are supposed to sound metallic, at least they all do in the beginning, but to my ears the corum last metallic sounding the longest.

I'm guessing it's that 'shaking a jar of nuts and bolts' sound ?
Very present in Conde guitars but not so much in others
Same as ' sizzle ' perhaps ? Loose .. Fret Rattle .. metallic Vibration ..

I'm with Ricardo on the luthiers or labella basses
Luthier 20 or Labella 820 basses
Cheapest strings out there but have that sound

I think he means "Zingy" basses. At least thats what i call them.

Most brands are pretty zingy when they're brand new.

The composites stay zingy a long time.

I thought that would be more like 'pingy ' basses ... not so 'ringy' or bingy bangy....

still, one mans zingy could be another mans bingy...can we agree on a sound now ??

ToddK yes you're right. All basses even the worst and the cheapest have a metallic sound, but some have more metalic sound than others, and again yes, d'addario composite which I'm using now on my hermanos sanchis ZINGS more than savarez cantiga ;)

So, to conclude what you all honorable friends said about metallic basses I came into this conclusion :

- Savarez Corum
- D'adarrio dynacore
- Luthier 20 and Luthier 30
- Labella 820

Is there any addition in your opinion or comparison between these 4 ?
