Hi everyone,

I am currently organizing the workshops for the Dutch Bienal of Flamenco, and would like to ask you this:

If you had the choice, who would you rather study with?

Any information would be great, thank you!

Jesús Bola

BTW why don't you start a poll?

Good luck with the Bienal

Wow...what a choice!! I did a workshop with Diego Morao and he is a great player but not a great teacher (IMO) : I dont know what Dani Moron is like as a teacher but Antonio Rey is much more methodical about his material. I would personally go for Antonio Rey.

Morao!
Reason: Es un monstruo!!

I should prefer to take lessons with a recognized maestro de accompanimiento ( Antonio Carrión or Rafael Rodriguez, for example). Then you can learn 2 things at the same time.

If that was the case Paco Jarana!

That's who I would go for. The other guys are giants but they would be way over my head I think!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies! That's a good idea Ed, didn't know it was possible :)
Do you know Bola as a teacher?

I understand that there are probably better teachers out there, but I have to work with the ones that are here already for concerts... Which of course is not a bad collection, in this case!

Pimientito, did you study with Antonio Rey?

Thanks guys!

I have added a poll to the post for you.

I did a workshop with Antonio Rey (with AlVal as well) which was great, except for one thing: he wouldn't let us record audio. I understand teachers not wanting to be filmed, but he is the first I've come across not allowing audio either. I don't know if that's still his policy.

On the plus side he is very good at talking about technique and how to overcome technical difficulties, and he would watch our playing intently and diagnose exactly what was wrong and what we needed to work on.

Needless to say, make sure there is at least one good Spanish speaker in the group that can translate for the others.

I did a day workshop with him last year. For me he was good because he is analytical as a player whereas Diego really cant explain how he is getting some of the effects that he does. Dont get me wrong...its great to sit close to players of this level in a workshop situation but some are better at teaching than others.

No, I don't know Jesús Bola as a teacher. His background seems interesting though...

Rey for sure worth my time and money even just to hang out.

Rmn -> RE: Question for guitarists: preferred teacher (Sep. 11 2014 12:02:13)

Antonio Rey 100%

Thanks Escribano!
And the others too, for your answers.
