rallair -> Guitar Strap for Flamenco (Aug. 26 2014 20:55:18)

Hi Everyone,

I have a physical problem that is worsened by sitting for long periods of time. I have tried various seated positions ... leg crossed over, not crossed over, foot stool, no foot stool, etc, but they are all bad. Can someone recommend a strap that will allow me to hold the guitar in a reasonably good position standing up, but that requires no holes and will not damage the guitar's surface? A brief Google search shows me there are a number of different ones available, but I am hoping some forum members can speak from experience.

Thanks,
Robert

I have used one of these which fits your needs:

Obviously I didn't do too much of the spinning :-)

Personally it wasn't for me and I sent it back, but I don't have problems sitting and was just trying out different methods to position the guitar at the time.

My two main objections were that sitting down I felt like I still needed their support to rest the guitar on for more stability (and I already have several guitar supports anyhow) plus if I wanted to hide the 'harness' at gigs I would always need a shirt with buttons to wear it underneath and that was just not practical.

Interesting idea though, especially if you are standing up and dead against fitting strap pins to your guitar.

You will probably find you need to try out several types to get the one that suits you, in the UK you can get a full refund when you buy anything by mail order if it doesn't suit your needs (7 working days after receipt of your goods).

Thanks, this system looks like it would work nicely. I will check it out.

I see nowhere mentioned the traditional position for flamenco.

Then your search skills suck. There are extensive discussions here on the foro about supports and straps and positions, some of which aren't even about the guitar ...

I once had a contraption gifted to me that I gave to a student. A rubber covered "S" shaped large metal rod such that standing, the top part over the right shoulder and the bottom part supported the lower waist of the guitar...you need to be touching the guitar with your hand to keep it from falling neck side but it was pretty comfortable for standing with the nice guitar you dont' want to drill. Seemed simple to make of you bend the metal and then glue or sleeve on some protective felt or rubber to the contact points.
