Hi, have been learning flamenco (very slowly and without a flamenco guitar teacher) for about 2 1/2 years now. Whenever I'm doing research on the web, I as often as not end up at this forum, which always seems so helpful and non-judgemental. Then it finally occurred to me to actually join it (duh), so here I am. As the heading suggests, I'm in Australia, but will be visiting Spain for a couple of weeks in early Oct, obviously hoping to catch some live flamenco, but also on the lookout for a new guitar. Very seriously considering one of Anders - just waiting for him to return from his break so I can touch base with him.
Louise

Welcome,
There's people here that can get in touch with Anders if you don't wanna wait. Can't recall who right now but they'll pipe up.

Non-judgmental???? Which forum???? Lolol jk Have fun and explore our online guiri flamenco consortium !

Thank you Lenador

Greetings from Adelaide
There's a few from Oz here
Enjoy your trip.. Totally envious

There's many taking the trek to Seville in sept - oct
Mainly dance teachers and students
Let us know if you want any details .. They could help in finding the schools and venues etc
But maybe you might want to escape the Australians on study

Good luck with the guitar
A fellow guitarist here in Adelaide has an Anders made guitar
Nice instrument indeed ..

Thanks AlVal. All pretty exciting - the trip AND the prospect of a new guitar [;)]

Welcome to the foro.

Since you've been learning for a while now without a teacher, you might want to consider consulting a teacher sooner rather than later; just so you don't end-up developing some bad habits.

If there's no teacher in your area, a number of excellent people offer lessons via Skype.

Just a thought.

Thanks Machopicasso - you're right about the value of a good teacher - I would certainly have a whole heap more bad habits in my classical playing if it weren't for my (fantastic) teacher.
Re the flamenco, definitely lack of teachers here is a problem, but I am fortunate to have the opportunity to play accompaniament for some dance classes, along with a couple of others, so although there is no guitar-specific teaching, there is at least some oversight of our playing (particularly maintaining compas!) - as well as the chance to learn about more than just the guitar. If only I could take it all in...

Where are you based in Oz Louise?
Other than Darwin the major cities and blue mountains / Byron area have some excellent flamenco teachers

LouKat -> RE: and ANOTHER Aussie (Aug. 22 2014 4:03:43)

Hi AlVal - I'm in Canberra

Guest -> RE: and ANOTHER Aussie (Aug. 22 2014 5:54:22)

Darwin and Canberra ...
Oops .. My bad.. Canberra often slips under the radar .. Though think Tomas Dietz (dancer) was doing some work there
Excellent classical guitar focus there for sure
Think dan sloss seems active in promoting flamenco but no teachers there that I know of
Sydney has some great players along with Melbourne and Adelaide
Guess the Skype option maybe avail but then you could go anywhere in the world with that medium
Hope it all works out
Feel free if you need contacts
Foro member Aloysius is a great teacher based in Adelaide
Not sure he's set up for Skype

Australia seems to have greater issues with singers .. Very rare., like spotting a yeti ..:-)

Best of luck

Thanks for your advice AlVal - I appreciate it. As it happens, Dan is one the guys I play guitar with for the flamenco dance classes - which are run by Tomas Dietz....(Also play classical guitar with Dan, in an ensemble). Small world....
