britguy -> Hannabach 'Goldin' breakage? (Jul. 28 2014 12:17:55)

Just had my second case of breakage with Hannabach Goldin strings. Both times the D string, and both times while the guitar was just sitting on its stand overnight.

Anybody else had breakage problems with these strings?

This set has been on for just three months.

For the price you'd think they would last longer.

If you play the guitar every day then 3 months in my opinion is a long time. My strings go dead and rusty after 4 or 5 weeks no matter what brand I play.
If the string is breaking in the same place it could be a sharp edge on a fret or on the bridge causing the problem. Personally I think its more likely that the change in climate from summer to winter in Ontario is going to cause strings to break now and again.

and that is the reason i use D'darrio strings , they last so much longer ...also it helps if you put the capo on different frets from time to time ,, its good practice and spreads the wear a bit

The Dynacore basses feel like normal strings but last very long.. you can move them a bit from time to time, put them backwards and they will keep sounding nice, even when discolored.

I don't remember what the core is on these but they don't get that stiff feeling that the flamenco and the pro arte composites set get when they are older.

Absolutely right.
Nothing lasts as long as D'addario Pro Arte from among the cheaper strings

That's been my experience too. Not only with the Golden, but with the 815's too.

3 months is 2 months too long for a set of nylon strings.

Surely there must be exceptions to this?

Depending on ambient conditions, how much actual playing time, etc.

Have any definitive tests ever been published?

Are you sure the result of that test is any other than "Whenever you want to change them"?

Yup, a month on my main guitar. I feel like on my secondaries they're still pretty good after 2-3 months.....

I had an issue with my B string always breaking. Checked the saddle, frets, changed strings..still no fix.
Come to find out, the 12 hole bridge had a sharp edge and was snapping the string.
A bit of sanding and fixed. Never happened since....
