Cereza -> Hello (Jul. 27 2014 15:51:59)

I'm new here, Spanish girl that loves flamenco, of course!

Pleased to meet you. [:)]

Leñador -> RE: Hello (Jul. 27 2014 16:53:53)

Bienvenido!
This place is pretty guitar centric but I'm sure you'll find some interesting stuff.
Audio/video uploads section has lots of gems!

Cereza -> RE: Hello (Jul. 27 2014 22:39:54)

Thank you, Leñador.

No problem, I like guitar too, I have been learning to dance for the last years but a good guitar is basic to make good flamenco and I am interested in it.

El Kiko -> RE: Hello (Jul. 28 2014 10:14:26)

¡Hola, Kiko! [;)]

No problem with English, in fact it's good for me to practise my writing (so don't be shy if you want to correct me).

Flamenco lyrics are a problem even to Spanish speakers, sometimes it's very difficult to understand what they say unless you listen to the songs many times, but at the same time it's funny to try.

I'm from the north of Spain. Flamenco isn't typical from here but there are many people that are passionate of it.

El Kiko -> RE: Hello (Jul. 28 2014 13:23:11)

ok no problem pleased to meet you as well ... me imagino que estas en la zona de Salamanca porque hay muchos cerezas por ahí...and that is why you are called cereza , or maybe because you are ,pequeña y redondeada, de color rojo oscuro, y dulce y su interior.[:D][:D]

anyway you can get a lot of good help and advice here , there are a lot of really good players from all countries , best thing is have a look around and if yoiu cant find the topic you want .. just ask i have never seen an unanswered question yet ...

Leñador -> RE: Hello (Jul. 28 2014 17:57:53)

I think for me the toughest thing about understanding letras is a lot of them are suuuper specific references, metaphors, and "dichos". Like if your not FROM Lebrija you won't get that or if your not FROM Jerez you won't get that. Like "She told him to go to the statue of saint whoever on whatever street." Someone from there would know "Oh, she wants to marry him because that's where people go to pray about marriage." Things like that....Kinda fun to get to the bottom of that stuff sometimes though. It does help give the letra the proper "weight" it deserves.

Cereza -> RE: Hello (Jul. 28 2014 18:58:53)

I agree, Leñador. The lyrics are usually not so important. But sometimes they are, because they speak about life and death, or other dramatic issues in a very gypsy way. The thing is to get the feeling of the song, and you can do it taking the whole, that is the music, the cante and the dancing all together.
