El Kiko -> Manolo Franco DVD question (Jul. 18 2014 19:37:27)

Kiko says ...Does anyone have any of the Manolo Franco collection?
, I was looking at getting one or two, or swapping stuff and getting some feedback about how they are ....

thats it

Hey Kiko,

I have the set and not got through them all. If you like his playing then I think they are awesome.

They have rock hard concert pieces, then accompaniment for Cante, with and without Cante, a few basic exercises etc.

Its normally my first choice to look for traditional stuff because its clear and solid... all about the cante. Not managed to play much of the concert bits but nice to see interesting chords etc.

Cheers

Hi
I also picked up the complete set .., used
I use these a lot
Left and right hand views of falseta's
All falseta material challenging
Score appears on screen, notation moves with audio .. So print screening .. No book
Seperate audio disc as well as DVD
Excellent cante accomp section
Technique section fairly minimal
Any questions feel free to pm

Excellent cante accomp section

How extensive is the cante accompaniment section (i.e. some, most, or all palos)? Curiously, how does it compare with the Encuentro DVD on accompaniment (the one featuring Merengue de Cordoba)?

Guest -> RE: Manolo Franco DVD question (Jul. 19 2014 11:23:18)

10 palos
guarjiras, alegrias, garrotin, tanguillos, solea por buleria, solea, tangos, seguirillas, fandangos, bulerias

the Merengue de Cordoba volumes are of course more extensive in the types of palo..probably the best resource out there?
The Manolo Franco explores possibly more material within the given 10 Palo...
also allows you to accompany with the omitted guitar track
i wouldnt say its the dominant focus of the disc but given a fairly equal part to the concert material
however this section isnt notated but explained in terms of chords...etc...more aural learning
They have a solo compas feel about the production...complete with percussion/palmas tracks..lento..medio,,rapido
so the format would be
Concert material/Falseta's %50
Cante %40
technique/explanations/notation %10

hope that helps

Can anyone enlighten me on what the name of this collection is called?

trebol17 -> RE: Manolo Franco DVD question (Jan. 7 2015 17:54:52)

If you want I can sell you alegrías, soleá y soleá por bulerías. Send me an e mail if you are interested

I have the bulerias one. In a way, it's a lot of money for a video of him playing an intermediate level piece plus the transcription and a few bogus extras.

However, he is a wonderful player and I was inspired by it, so I guess it was money well spent.
