Leñador -> How bad is this crack??? (Jul. 11 2014 14:03:03)

Noticed this huge crack all down the back of my guitar, runs the entire distance from top to bottom and goes clear through to the inside. Pretty sure it's from my keeping it out all the time and keeping all my windows open, the humidity and temperatures have been changing wildly out here.

What can I do? It appears to sound the same…..Can I just glue thin strips of wood to the inside? I'm not so worried about looks, more so just the guitar imploding or something….Even though it's a cheap valencia it's my "good guitar" and my only flamenco.
I do have a fair amount of woodworking expierience and access to many tools but not sure how delicate of a process this is….I'd much rather fix it myself but if I have to take it to Ruben Vazquez he's not far from me….

You could just ignore it and it will probably be just fine. If you're concerned about keeping alignment of the edges of the crack you could add a few cleats. Cracks are cosmetically annoying but seldom cause problems.

Thought this was about drugs!

I agree you could ignore it , you always have the option of taking it to Ruben Vazquez just to get an opinion ,,,since he would be your repairer anyway ..

This is pretty good news. Thanks John & Kiko. Thinking about it I suppose the braces are there to keep it from imploding..... I may put some cleats on it for fun, battle scars I suppose. [:D]

Why would you think that? Everyone knows there's no such thing as BAD crack.....[:D]

This is what happens when you stay away from the foro for a while... on a regular day I would think about cracks on the wood but I've been playing too much electric guitar with my spandex on and... well, you know. [:D]

Que dice tu Bananasan??? Lo dejo así com esta?? O pongo unos cleats para segurar lo?
Tal vez pongo super glue,o hide glue?

El Kiko -> RE: How bad is this crack??? (Jul. 13 2014 10:21:05)

naaa .....a couple of nails and a bit off gaffer tape....it just makes it more "Autentico flamenca" watch out or those golpes now ... guitar imploding would be a great video though ...[:D]

estebanana -> RE: How bad is this crack??? (Jul. 13 2014 12:21:23)

Bananasan says John says good stuff.

Cleats, a bit of hide glue pressed in with a clean finger is what a repair person will do.

Does it open and close as the humidity changes?

The cracks and seam issues that change sound are usually when backs or a top separates from rib structures, then the sound gets changed for the worse. Longitudinal grain cracks are worrisome, but usually not difficult to stabilize. A couple cleats a some hide glue at a good repairman's shop should work to fix this.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: How bad is this crack??? (Jul. 13 2014 16:06:10)

I would do something about it before the crack gets dirty.
As stephen says, its pretty simple. Just some HHglue and keep the wod aligned wile drying. I would also put in some 5 - 8 cleats to make it stronger.
The good thing about this crack is that you know it wont get any longer [8D]

Leñador -> RE: How bad is this crack??? (Jul. 13 2014 16:23:37)

Okay gracias hombres! I'll just slap some cleats on it for safe keeping. I don't want it to separate from ribs. Imma learn to love it, lo da charàcter. :)
Thanks again guys!
