For a bit of fun, I thought I might try some minor blues licks to a Floyd-style backing track. This is all made up as I go along, so please forgive any little mistakes.

Like all good prog. rock, this goes on forever, but I find it quite soothing in a hippy kind of way. First time using the Strat whammy bar.

Sorry, I can´t access the clips.
Just want to say that PF will be releasing an album named "The Endless River" from times during sessions for "The devision Bell".
This has been leaked just days ago by Gilmour´s wife Polly Samson.

These takes were done for "The Big Spliff" as a side project and originally meant as instrumentals. Gilmour and Mason revisited it in the past months however and added vocals, etc.

I am pretty eager to hear what will be released automn this year.

Not too sure about that but I guess, because I grew up with them, saw them play Dark Side at Knebworth in '75 and as I was an English grammar schoolboy, it all kind of seeps in subliminally.

Coincidentally, one of the scale model Spitfires used by the Floyd on their Dark Side tour is sitting in the front garden of a friend's house in my old village in Granada. He used to work with Sabbath. I have seen it and can confirm. [8|]

I think saying "Just like Gilmour" would be too much, as there is a little bit less of glue between the notes compared to what the maestro would do. ( However this could be at least partially due to settings. Maybe you could tweak in for more tail?)

Yet, I like it a lot and that tickle in my solar plexus, or wherever that indescribable sensation radiates from when me is musically truely touched, was fully going. It made me so feeling brother in crime. ( All like: "Yeah, yeah, yeah!" :O)

I am such a sucker for PF and specially David G. that a friend called me up just last week, saying he had the vision that I should write Gilmour.
I asked him whether he was nuts. For one what was I to say, and more even, one of the most reknown persons on the planet receiving a mail from some Ruphus guy, as if there weren´t flying in tons of unread posts since decades already.

The garbage collection must be taking special fees for centners of fan letters they have to drag away all the time.

My friend still day dreaming, continued saying that Gilmour was such a down to earth and fine chap that he might respond and who knows along the chat even helping me to get out of the cesspool.
To which I remarked that I would like to smoke the same stuff. [:D]


Anyway, just wanting to indicate what this music does to me.

And besides, another musical aspect:
I had young friends back then bring to me those remakes of the old albums in the nineties. Took them out of the CD player after only seconds, and put on the old venyls to demonstrate the difference.
And indeed the young folks though unfamiliar with the original takes discerned the difference, which was that despite of perfect playing note per note and even yet better hi-fi with the remakes, the performance esprit close in time to the creation lends the original albums a quality that is just unique.

Anyone else figured a difference?

Thanks Ruphus and Shroomy. This was recorded quickly on an iPad with no room to tweak anything in post. I might set up a decent DAW workflow when I believe I am ready. That's why I am posting here, to get some feedback.

I can't say I was a hardcore fan of Floyd (I was in a band and never had the patience) but they were playing everywhere when I was a teenager and chillling out to Echoes, Breathe, Shine On You Crazy Diamond etc. was part of our DNA. Their production values were exceptional.

I would imagine Gilmour might reply to the odd, rather special email or even better, a handwritten letter.

I didn´t mean in post, though.
The sound decays too fast, and I thought it could have to do with pickup choice or amp head / fx pedal or something. All I know is that when I plug in my strat even just dry there will be more of tail.

I suppose that a bit more of sustain ( - just like with the original) would jelp this part with being more organic.

I wasn´t certain about pieces like Umma Gumma etc. ( and lesser even later about that pop BIAW thingy), but albums like DSOTM or WYWH ( or David´s solo venyl) blew me away / still totally do. The only thing I consider obligate is a playback situation of sonic quality. Music like this may still be sounding good through something like a transistor radio, but it just suits it naturally to come accross lush in tasty listening environment.

Told my friend that I would never write.
I have done a couple of crazy things like e.g. inquiring at J.J.Cales label in the early eighties when he was personally still completely abscent from media ( with the label guys kindly replying that they had no info on Cale´s whereabouts themselves, and that I shall please let them know whenever fetching something :O) ... Or on another occasion wrote Sheryl Crow asking her why only one of her albums was so overdone in the studio ( only to discover shortly afterwards that my stereos EQ had been set inadequately / her album actually been stellar produced [8|] >slaps forehead<)

But Gilmour? No way. Too much oneway.
All I could utter would be enthusiastic blurb about his work, and thus useless reflection to a mature artist like him.
Like a high-spirited grasshopper knocking on a rhino shinbone to talk about todays weather.

Yeah, it decays fast because of my pickup selector choice and it's at a very low volume. But I kind of like the low-fi hollowness of that setting. I hear too much overdriven sustain nowadays [8|] Your English is getting a lot better by the way, when you discuss less esoteric subjects.

I must admit to not being firm with what is tasty these days.
My preferences were founded with good old stuff like the one we are talking about, and havn´t changed / developed much since.
( Even though considering myself as often times appreciative for new sound shapes if they fit well to an arrangement.)
- Funny besides, how I hear individual sounds in late productions that are a lot like those I used to dial in when the POD came out.

Certain developments I came to understand though. For instance the disgust of the AE community against drowning in reverb like done in the eighties. It must have been easy to be seduced by flattering / masking echo and took some time until sensed as overdone.

Naturally, I would think.
Philosophical topics or when trying extraction of principles / covering broad fields are more demanding language wise, and it gets only worse when you tend to compress coherences like I do in my head. ( Leaving out mentioning of more or less "self-evident" links, etc.)

And then there is that inconsistancy with language skills that I have. Sometimes things appear to be sitting neatly in their place, other times languages and semantics must be tumbling all over the place and sometimes the language cortex seems to be weaken altogether. ( Possibly because of my current situation and the rejection that I feel against the local language, yet forced to using it every day.)
