TANúñez -> Encuentro DVD - Merengue de Cordoba (Dec. 15 2005 16:25:54)

I'm selling a used Encuentro DVD/Book - La guitarra flamenca de Merengue de Cordoba. I've listed it on ebay if anyone is interested. It's still in mint condition. It's great for the beginner/intermediate as he covers technique as well as a bunch of different palos.

TOO EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS,

Then you better not buy it. All Encuentro stuff is expensive.

I think it's a good price .These videos/DVD's are a good learning tool for those that can't make the trip to spain . Not to mention lessons from a Flamenco guitar teacher costing $35 and up per hour .........

I agree Juan. These are great and some are pretty difficult. I like the fact that you can see guys like Tomatito, Gerardo, Paco Serrano and Moraito do their thing. Unfortunately they are pricey but they are worth it IMO. I get these also because it's probably the only way I'll get to see these guys play unless I can one day get to España.

I agree with Tom (El Zurdo) here...

Sure it may be expensive in comparison to CD's or DVD's.
But it's a very limited edition market for what these guys are doing.
To watch a famous Flamenco player sit down and show you slowly how he does it?
For about the same cost as three or four lessons from a local (non-Spanish) teacher?

At one time money couldn't buy that...

Get real!

cheers

Ron

I agree with Ron and Tom-younger guys have no idea how lucky they are to have the tools that are available today. Compas programs, dvd's of the greats playing their music slow, books and books of transcribed solos, methods, it's just unreal. As recently as the early eighties, you could count the commercially available transcription books on your hands. A German guy came out with the first PdL tunes in tab, and they were about $20.00 for one song, which actually was a bargain then, because, to learn Paco's zap, for example, could have taken you a half dozen lessons or more at 30.00 a piece, assuming you could find a guy who knew it, which you probably couldn't. The Gerardo or Tomatito dvd is worth at least a thousand dollars in 1980's money. The free program, amazing slow downer-what would people have paid for that in the 80's? At least 500.00 OTHO, people play with better technique today, probably in part because of these tools, so the standard continues to rise.

Exactly!! How else are going to get a lesson from one of these guys. I'm sure there are ways but it can't be easy.

im sure it´s not "overpriced" in dollars. 80$ is 800Kr and i can get the complete DVD and book shiped to my front door for that price.
Thisa is not critic just a reflection ..our Krona is weak. [:(]

Guest -> RE: Encuentro DVD - Merengue de Cordoba (Dec. 17 2005 9:41:34)

I cant understand why they took M.d.cor. for these videos. There are tons of players who would have been able to play exact the same acompan. but with more aire. It would have been much more fun to watch better players. Merengue knows all the theory but he´s so damn bad.... [:@] I cant watch more the 2 minutes of his video than I have to stop it, coz this bad technic and debilitated wrist and fingers hurt in my eyes. The Merengue videos are good to watch basic acompan.-chords but dont try to learn his technic...
Ok I was drunken in past, so I was able to watch the whole video without vomitting. The most funny scene was when he said very cool with a happy face "now lets try to acompan. this alegrias with modern chords". Horrible horrible... stonagetechnic with some pre-modren pseudochords.. [:'(]... Yes the merengue videos are very overpriced for what he does.

Sorry for this hard statement.. Im in a very bad mood today coz of a stupid girl of yesterday!! Grrrr!!
