Hello, does anybody have experience with Daniel Mari flamenco strings. They are offered in 5 different tensions; the normal tension set is claimed to be developed for and with Sabicas...

Curious about your opinions

Seem to be responding to string threads ..osd
Great trebles
Unusual tension on the D or 4th string
Only used the 300 med tension
Certainly a good string ... Inexpensive
Relatively long lasting ...
Worth trying for your own evaluation
Prefer the luthier 20

Imagine there's a bit if info on these strings in the search engine http://www.foroflamenco.com/searchpro.asp?topicreply=both&message=both&timeframe=%3E&timefilter=0&top=300&criteria=AND&minRank=10&language=single&phrase=Daniel+Mari+strings+

i used them years ago. the flamenco strings (magenta colored pack as i recall) have nice trebles and good basses. the problem with the strings is that they are pretty low in tension. the medium tension strings are slightly less in tension than your typical medium tension strings. they work well with long scale guitars but 650 and under they are really loose. the next higher tension strings should work well although i do not have experience with them.

i chatted with daniel mari years ago and he told me he made the strings for sabicas. however, everyone and their brother seems to have made strings for sabicas and sabicas seems to have used just about any brand. i read somewhere, the source forgotten, that he used savarez red card strings for a while. i have a pack of black diamond strings from the 60's or 70's that were made for sabicas and they used sabicas' picture on the pack--endorsement i guess. i do not know how the strings sound as they were a present and may be the last remaining pack. if you read concert programs that include the name of sabicas' guitar and strings you will see he used a variety of brands. there is a photo is jose ramirez's book, things about the guitar, that lists the strings used by sabicas--neither mari or black diamond.

by the way, daniel mari is of the la bella strings mari clan.

Agree with Keith that their tension is a bit low, even the 200ph hard tension set, and you need IMO a 660+ scale or a guitar with a hard pulsation for them to truly feel right. They are bright and long lasting, similar to the labella 2001 medium tension flamenco set in terms of tone to me. Probably the quickest strings to settle into tuning I've ever played. They also have the best nylon G string of any set I've ever played. It's almost worth the price of admission just for the G string.
