Richard Jernigan -> RE: Paco Pena and Eliot Fisk- new mini concert video (Jun. 17 2014 17:20:27)

Last time I saw Eliot was in Cuernavaca, Mexico in about 2000. At the intermission I said to a young classical pro, whom I admire a great deal, "Sometimes he plays so fast, it seems almost as though he is parodying himself." The reply was, "I'm always in awe. He has such a great time out there on stage!" I saw a new approach here to the sound port. Eliot modifies the sound by sticking his shirt collar or his chin in it. New possibilities! Great fun. I like Eliot in flamenco better than Bream or Williams. He may not be perfect, but he gets into the swing of things. Paco likes it. Some classical players mug a lot--Bream and Pavel Steidl come to mind--others are calmer in demeanor. As a teenager Eliot took regular lessons from Segovia. I don't think Segovia taught mugging.
