Hello,

what are the brightest sounding bass (wound) strings you know? I mean with the strongest overtones...

Blondie#2 -> RE: The Brightest Bass Strings You Know (Jun. 5 2014 7:25:08)

Savarez Alliance.

For me, way too bright on a good flamenco guitar. I once used them on a blanca in concert, miked up playing with my duo partner who had a very similar guitar. In the break, someone in the audience was chatting to us and he asked me if I was playing a steel strung guitar. I stopped using them at the point.

Somebody on Delcamp posted a list of major string brands while back, from bright to dark. I thought it was pretty much on the money.

luthier 20 are pretty bright

Savarez Corum basses are pretty bright. I used them for a couple of years when I was accompaning dancers and they really stood out. But they don't last very long when playing a lot.

Ok the thin bright basses that are found in a set called 'Savarez Alliance' strings then.

I think they are called HT or HT classic?

Some alliance sets come with corum strings.

Burnsbyrne, what strings have you found last longer? I think they are pretty long lasting(corum)...

Seems Strings by mail would agree with me about these basses:

'The Savarez 540 HT Classic Series are noted for their long life. The basses are the brightest and most rigid of the Savarez basses'

Is the normal tension hs strings about the average tension, for example compared to corum basses?

I never did a comparison of different strings. All I know is that I felt I needed to change them after 3-4 weeks.

Anders Eliasson -> RE: The Brightest Bass Strings You Know (Jun. 6 2014 7:22:52)

The brightest sounding strings will in general be the thinnest. And some of the basses mentioned here are pretty thin (Luthier20 and Savarez Corum)
Try a set of low or ultra low tension

Saverez Alliance and Daddario composites are the brightest ive
heard.
Everytime i play the string game, i always end up back at D'addario J46.

Thanks everybody for your contributions. I'll check out some of the suggestions.

carlolee -> RE: The Brightest Bass Strings You Know (Jul. 1 2014 3:17:34)

Are not Savarez the best strings?

Ricardo -> RE: The Brightest Bass Strings You Know (Jul. 1 2014 3:30:23)

brightest are always going to be NEWEST and most in tune (ie functioning to work WITH not against the trebles as much as with each other), as the harmonics add up and equal brightness when the strings stop stretching. Helps too if the guitar is not pulling in too much moisture. To that end, the brand itself is fairly arbitrary.
