GailP -> Wanted: Oribe Flamenco (Dec. 12 2005 20:19:10)

[sm=Smiley Guitar.gif]I am looking for a used Oribe Flamenco Guitar that is in nice shape. No cracks or repaired cracks. Nicks and scratches are OK. Pegs or Tuners OK. Merry Christmas!

Thanks, Tom for the advice. I've already contacted Mr. Oribe, and he does not have any nor does he know of anyone who has a used one for sale. I was trying to save money by trying to buy a used one, instead of new. The new ones, I'm sure, are worth it, but way above my budget!

Thanks for the info. I've already contacted the seller. It has a really long repaired crack from the inside of the waist (where you would place your leg) all along to the butt end. It was glued, but I am concerned abut this. The seller wants $3,500 for this guitar. Any comments?

The bidding begins at $2,500, however the guitar can be purchased without the auction in play for $3,500. The crack was glued by the current owner, who I believe is a luthier, by the name of Hippner. Does anyone know anything about him? I would appreciate any information.

Darren (Hipner) is a very well known and respected builder in the Seattle Washington area. I would feel very comfortable that if he fixed it, it was done right. He has a good reputation to uphold so he doesn't need the hassle of bad stuff on the market. He probably got this guitar as a trade in on one of his own guitars.

Personally, I wouldn't be too concerned about the crack. For a guitar of that age and the crack not being on the front, to me it wouldn't be a big deal. You might have him send you a picture of the area he repaired.

This guitar new would cost an arm and a leg.

OK, tell you what. I live in Portland a few hours from his shop. Pay my way and Ill go look at it for you!

ps. New Oribes start at $3200.

Sam,

I think those prices are a bit low. Here is his web site. Take a look at the prices at the bottom of the page!

Sendero,

You mentioned your favorite blanca flamenco made by someone in Andalucia, Spain.
Who is this maker, why do you consider his guitars your favorite, and how can I contact him? Thank you!

My teacher has a 1967 Oribe Flamenco that he lets me play sometimes. It has a great sound, and is really easy for me to play - I think the shape of the neck really fits me well. Plus, the quality of workmanship.

Can you tell me what makes Anders guitars very fine Flamenco guitars?
