NelskiBL -> Introduction (May 18 2014 10:48:24)

Hi

I'm Nelson, I live in Central Scottishland and have been playing guitar for many years. I've played in a lot of bands - punk, rock, blues, acoustic. Some years ago, on holiday in the Balearics, I bought a Spanish guitar and have picked out - by ear - what I think resembles some Spanish-influenced tunes.

Now that I'm getting towards fifty years old, and having given up gigging (all those late nights, lugging equipment about, driving to rehearsals and gigs etc.) I'm spending more time mellowing and expressing myself with my classical guitar.

On top of all that, I'm going to Andalucia in the summer and I aim to sit on the terrace of the villa playing to the heat and the dust and the chink of ice melting in the Sangria. (I have taken the guitar back to Spain on a couple of holidays - as well as elsewhere in Europe- and it has provided the soundtrack to some great times.)

I found this forum and I hope to pick up my proficiency a bit (a lot).

I'm looking forward to reading, playing and the discourse.

Travelling to Antequera, as I will be, I am particularly interested (at this moment in time) in discovering the influences on the music of the region: flamenco; Moorish scales and music; Romani; Judeo-Spanish; Sufi... anything.

Glad I found this place.

Nelson

Welcome Nelson,

I am going the other way, back from a life in Andalucía and back to the blues.

Flamenco is a long and rewarding journey, but very demanding. Your ears will be attuned to the blues and all that is familiar to you. I just enjoy listening to it, now I know some more about it. Good luck to you!

p.s. Try some verrano tinto instead of sangria [;)]

Morante -> RE: Introduction (May 18 2014 19:17:22)

You will be asado de calor in Antequera in the summer; but you are not too far from Málaga which has a good feria, 17-24 August, good tapas, good Plaza de Toros and a beach, with sardines roasted on a stick.[:D]

Thank you Escribano. And I will, as you recommend, opt for verrano tinto.

And si, Morante, it will be hot. Living in central Scottishland it's important to get warmed right through to the bone marrow every now and then. I do hope to catch a little breeze on the terrace. A few years ago we spent some summer time in Mojacar. I know it was near the sea, but the wind stirred the dust quite often. I hope it's similar in Antequera. If not... then not.

Sadly, we'll miss the feria. We travel home on the last day of July.

Nelson
