ralexander -> Question about Canal Sur Flamenco radio (May 6 2014 17:07:54)

I love streaming this station while at work or home in the shop, but something I've noticed that drives me a bit crazy is that they often cut songs short!! What is the deal with this? [:@]

Anyway, I think the station is great - they play a nice mix of old and new material and I've discovered a few new artists while just casually listening. Check it out if you haven't already:

It's definitely the best streaming flamenco station I've ever found. Siempre muy flamenco.
What bugs me is I can't find a lot of songs they play ANYWHERE for purchase. lol

Yes That is one sweet station.
I listen every chance I get.
Lenador, A lot of those artists are down loaded on You tube. You have to get their names
which as you know they stream on the bottom. Then go to You tube and search for the artist. A lot of them I have found there.

Luck.

I think their programmation is going on per hour. So just before you heard "bipbipbip son las...en...las...en...", they use to fill this gap with a solo guitar tune. I never ever listen one this solo guitar tune until the end. They always cut it. If the guitarrista begin to plays 45 sec before the bipbipbip, then his tune last 45 sec.

Maybe they also cut tunes before the inbetween speech. I don't know.

IMO the hours infos and the speechs are time references (well not so sure with the speech itself coz they haven't the same lenght duracion...but the slogan that annonce the speech might be a time ref. "recordando" or "hablamos de"). This way they could reset the timeline and begin a new cycle until the next one. The last tune of that loop, the cut one is there to fill the gap until the boot.

the programmation is made for one day in advance:

it's kind of waiting for Chrismas: ahh, at 17:35 Moraito!
and useful for the study of special toques

saludos

Oops I forgot about this thread, until just now when they cut Moraito short - isn't that some sort of crime in Spain?? [:(]

Thanks for the info everyone! Good to know about the program link. Kasey, I feel your pain in the difficulty of finding a lot of stuff - even being totally willing to pay a reasonable amount! I have ordered CDs from Spain in the past, but it does get expensive. iTunes selection has been getting better, but is still lacking in good flamenco. I was considering getting this program to allow me to purchase from the US iTunes store just to expand my choices a little, but that's not cheap either.

Leñador -> RE: Question about Canal Sur Flamenco radio (Jun. 6 2014 17:21:59)

Canada has different iTunes then US???? I never woulda thought.....

Escribano -> RE: Question about Canal Sur Flamenco radio (Jun. 6 2014 17:23:27)

Have you tried Spotify? I pay for the Premium service for high quality encoding and downloads to take away. The standard service is lower res., no downloads and sporadic ads. But it's free.

ralexander -> RE: Question about Canal Sur Flamenco radio (Jun. 6 2014 18:00:48)

Yep, different selection in itunes Canada vs US. And Spotify is not available in Canada. I could use something like Hide My A** VPN to trick the program into thinking I reside in the US. This alone is around $60 a year. I'm considering it, as I've also heard that the US Netflix selection is a lot better.

Wow! I thought the only difference between us was healthcare and Brits on your currency….Sounds like that 60 a year may be worth it……..

Mostly I'd agree, though I think I ought to send up some Cali micro-brews before you make your final judgment. [:D]
