constructordeguitarras -> Golpeador Material Supplier (May 1 2014 19:41:46)

I recently purchased some self-stick golpeador material from LMII.com and found that it was very different from what they used to carry. The only difference was supposed to be that it is now 0.01" thick instead of the previously 0.011" thick. But it also has an opaque backing, and more importantly sticks differently--not as well. If you look close, at least at my applications, it is a little mottled all over.

I noticed that stringsbymail.com is now selling some golpeador material that is 0.018" thick, so I ordered some and it seems very nice. It's a little hard to find on their website but here is a direct link to it: http://www.stringsbymail.com/store/accessories-2/guitar-protection-361/ The protective film on the front is blue so it's easy to tell which side is which, and its backing is also opaque.

I had the same problem with the new LMI golpeador material. Thanks for the link, I will try those.

Glad I could help out, Andy. And I want stringsbymail to keep carrying it, so I thought it would be good to let others know.

estebanana -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 1 2014 23:00:57)

You just have to call LMI on the phone and ask them if they are still going to order the .010 and let them know the 0.01 is not the right stuff. It's usually a gap in ordering. I think it happened before.

Last LMI order I got was for the .010 and it was not too long ago.

But I'll try the SBM .018 that sounds almost too thick, but it will work.

What I really want is .015 or .016 Clear Mylar without the self stick back so I can glue it on. But that is difficult to get now days.

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 1 2014 23:22:31)

I got some plain Mylar sheeting once, but it didn't have any protective films on it and came all scratched up, so it sits on my top shelf. I see what you mean, though: it only seems to be available up to 0.014" for some reason http://www.grafixplastics.com/mylar_types.asp

THose are the ones I just used in the "golpeador removal" thread of mine. I have to warn though....I ordered a batch of strings some years back and one plate which they stuffed into a square box. needless to say it was bent and useless, although I made temporary use of a small part of it. I would specify when ordering to have it or them sent perfectly flat.

Here you can see what they look like:

http://www.foroflamenco.com/tm.asp?m=78861&p=1&tmode=1&smode=1

question....do you guys think a thicker (versus thinner) golepeador inhibits bass frequencies of the top or volume or what?

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 2 2014 15:11:28)

They seem to have learned a lesson because they packed the 10 8"x16" ones I ordered in a box that was big enough for them to lie flat, and they even put in a bunch of bubble wrap so it would stay flat. It was very well packed and they arrived in good condition. I have always received very good and fast service from them. I order strings and they come in 2 or 3 days, amazingly, by mail.

I think that the effect of the golpeador in the area where it is usually placed is very minimal. That central area of the soundboard has a lot of leeway, I have found.

lisa de granada, who gave us lisa guitar strings has tap plates AND tap plate adhesive remover. below is the link--her web page appears updated so i hope all the information is current.

anders, do you know her? she is in granada. interesting woman!

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 2 2014 16:23:33)

Thanks for posting this, Keith. Looks like really good stuff on her site. According to her, a tap plate that is too soft will mute the sound and one that is hard will let the sound through. Sounds right to me.

keith -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 2 2014 17:59:49)

ethan, not a problem. i just finished lunch (tasty burger) and while chowing down i read a little about titan labs. i suspect this may be the product lisa mentions. looks like the company is "green".

for the solvent:

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (May 2 2014 18:10:17)

Thanks for the update, Keith. Yeah, I think you're right--or maybe their Oil Flow 141 actually. I hope it really works so well. There is still chewing gum on the inside of my clothes dryer from when my son left a pack of gum in his pocket years ago, so I'll see.

Now this is a little confusing: I just received this email from Lisa de Granada:

Dear Ethan,
LMI has my tap plates. We discovered the Titan remover only works on newly applied tap plates. What does work is the old petroleum they used to clean engines with or very very slowly with diesel fuel.
un abrazo LISA
I'm out of tap plates at the moment but will have some myself in 3 weeks. If you can't them at LMI send me another e mail and i'll send them when I go to pick them up in the US.

WAIT, WAIT! I just got another email from her. The ones at LMI are not hers (Of course; hers don't have an opaque backing). We can order them from her.

benros -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (Jul. 17 2018 18:07:15)

hey ethan,
have you ordered the golpeadores from lisa? are they good? do someone have another good source for golpeador material in europe?

constructordeguitarras -> RE: Golpeador Material Supplier (Jul. 17 2018 18:13:46)

It's been so long I can't remember if I ever got any from Lisa. I remember she said they had a good method or solvent for removing theirs, but then changed her mind and said it wasn't working.

Felipe Conde is apparently selling the thick kind: http://www.condehermanos.com/en/tienda/accessories/tapping-plate
