Hi guys

Anyone know what this tattoo means? . Seems really strange. A muslim symbol, a jewish symbol, as a gitano?

Help really appreciated

siempre el tuyo,

Tenshu

Its the Muslim Crescent and Star - the sign of Islamism.
A quick internet search reveals that many believe the symbol predates Islamism by several thousand years.

Possibly to do with the moorish connections to the gypsies and flamenco...

But it's not actually a star, its a hexagram, as in the star of David... Very strange juxtaposition

Purely speculation - perhaps a sign of solidarity with both the arabs and the jews - given the origins of Flamenco relating to both Judaism and Islam - both the arabs and jews were persecuted along with the gypsies.

Specifically, this is the design on the Turkish flag. http://www.columbia.edu/~sss31/Turkiye/bayrak.html

Probably he saw that and liked it. My gypsy friend said the moon is a symbol of protection, and the star is a guide. For Camaron it probably has more than one meaning, although I doubt it has to do with religions.

Duquende has the same tattoo, probably because he want's to BE Camaron.

In Granada ( I dont know about elsewhere) when the star sits above the crescent moon in the sky ( ie not on a flag but the real thing) like that it is called La Luna Mora , the Moorish moon. Some-one pointed out that this symbol predates Islam and so I'm asking around to see if there is a specific Gypsy connection, will let you know if I find out anything.

I know this may be a longshot but I used to live in Portsmouth and that is the city coat of arms, also used by Portsmouth FC.

You'll notice the Turkish flag has a 5-pointed star. Distinctly different.

Just a star and a moon or not?? Maybe it had a complete different meaning for camaron? It could be that he allways wanted to be an astronaut. Or he was very drunken or drugedand woke up with this tatoo....

In Andaluz the Virgin stands on a crescent moon, I guess she is the star.
We all know Conde headstock has the crescent moon.

Phil -> RE: Camaron tattoo (Dec. 13 2005 17:08:58)

Maybe it had no meaning at all to Camaron. He may have just thought it was cool.[;)]
