Jim.

Florian -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 15:46:28)

Noone is saying anything about the tangos , i am starting to get worried now

I really have no idea if you guys like it or dont like it or my instincts were wrong

I like it but than again i mixed it so no surprise there :)

I did take a gamble on Patricks falseta at the end , he will either like it or he wont . I hope he does.

Ron.M -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 16:01:23)

Hey Florian,
I've only just had a chance to play it. (I've only got a 56k modem..and that's one of the longest files I've ever downloaded LOL!).
Very impressed with the standard of playing except for that old guy who plays everything with the thumb...what's that all about then...can't he play any tunes? LOL!
Seriously though Florian, that must have been a lot of work for you to put together...
No wonder your sick of Tangos!!
I really liked the "Moorish" bit at the end!

cheers and thanks

Ron

Merle -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 16:24:16)

LOL!

Florian, I like it all...

But, it would have probably been better had you left mine out! :>)

I did not listen to all of it because I had to come to work, but I will listen to it all tonight when I come home!

Good job, amigo...

Merle

Jim Opfer -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 16:42:37)

Hey Florian,
I've only just downloaded it and I want to wait till the house is quiet then I'll sit back in my room with the lights down low, a small whisky in one hand and my remote in the other and then I'll turn her on.
Let you know how it goes.
Cheers
Jim.

Florian -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 17:22:12)

gerundino63 -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 17:48:28)

well guys, very nice job !!!

Do you let me know when the worldtour comes to Holland??

And Florian, incredible!
I am always glad my computer goes on everyday, but you know your way around!
Peter

Escribano -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 18:07:54)

I've got it turned up loud right now and it sounds pretty awesome, hangs together very well, good mix.

Sounds like you were all in the same room with a few drinks. Wish I had been there but I will be one day.

I have to mention that some of my computer pro buddies at Microsoft were very impressed with this accomplishment. Without any cajoling (well not from me), it just goes to show what you get if you leave folks alone let them get on with it.

You have made me a happy and proud Admin[&:]

In fact, I am going to play it again.

Time zones, Florian, time zones.

Like your profile picture BTW. Sort of reminds me of someone.

Patrick -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 25 2003 18:48:13)

Florian,

Way to go buddy, you have outdone yourself! Knowing what little bit about sound editing that I know, I can tell you have indeed spent hours and hours putting this together. I don't think most people have a clue what steps you went through to make this happen. Trust me folks, it was a bunch of work!

How did you get my piece at the end to track so close to the backing track? Did you have to tweak anything to get it to line up? For everyone’s info, I didn't play to that backing track; it was a pleasant surprise to me.

Pretty amazing when you think about it, that a few outstanding and a few borderline (me) players that live thousands of miles apart can pull off a project like this.

My thanks to Florian for being a gluten for punishment and to Simon for letting us be kids again and have some fun.

Pat

Florian -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 7:24:21)

Patrick It wass pure luck that you falseta fitted with this backing track i had , I mean i had to find the right place in the compass to start it but i did not have to change a bit as far as timing goes with yours.

I am very relived you liked what i did with yours Patrick because i took a big chance, doing it without asking you :)

It was just a pleasure for me to work with all this greate falsetas.

ps: if listen closely in the intro you can hear Patrick breathe :)

Patrick breathes and plays at the same time? Doh, that's what I have been doing wrong, no wonder my falsetas are so short!

gerundino63 -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 9:24:42)

I can't say it often enough !!

PLAY WITH YOUR SCUBADIVING EQUIPMENT!

It is way more relaxing.

lol, Peter

Escribano -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 9:49:59)

Peter,
Uw Engels krijgt al tijd beter, mijn Nederlands is van het Web[:@]

Jim Opfer -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 11:45:26)

Hi Florian,
Great job there, was that your voice adding the shouts?
You must have spent hours and hours putting that together. Pure genius! mi amigo.
Cheers
jim.

Florian -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 12:11:04)

yes Jim I added the Jaleos from a sample cd .

Florian -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 15:15:06)

SO , who's putting theyr hands up to take charge of the next group song ?
We gonna keep this tradition ?

Now that we are getting good at it :) now that we know it can be done.

Merle -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 19:56:35)

Florian, Patrick told me that he will step up to the plate on this one! ;>) I think he wants to do Sevillanias! ;>)

Merle

(just teasing, Pat)

(hey, that might not be a bad idea)!!

Escribano -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 20:32:14)

Pleeeze make it a Solea, I might make it into the final this time.[;)]

Merle -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 21:07:45)

Solea! That is a good idea, Simon! Now, who's gonna mix it, because I sure don't know how, otherwise I would, but...

Merle

Escribano -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 21:49:33)

Hey, we must all know the Solea right? At least how it's supposed to sound.

Isn't it the breast-stroke, the "chop-sticks", the "oath of allegiance", the Lord's prayer, the rite of passage of flamenco?

Umm, who should mix it? Well, Florian did a great job so why should we look for anyone else?[;)]

What about Kate's partner, Harold? You know he's got the studio in Granada and the gear and if we asked nicely we might be able to get some Andaluz participation? I am going down in October so I'll check it out with Kate when she gets back from the US.

BTW - Harold was sound engineer for Enrique Morente and should be doing PDL at Alhambra some time soon. So I guesss he's qualified. [;)]

Leave it with me.

Patrick -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 21:56:34)

Merle, Simon,

OK you twisted my arm. Actually I was about to volunteer anyway. I have been putting some thought into why the participation was low on the Tangos project. No definitive answers, but it may be a couple of things. First off Tangos may not be a rhythm a lot of us play. I think it may have been playing to a backing track that dissuaded some folks. In my case, I had not played to a backing track before and found it to be rewarding, but challenging.

I also have been putting a lot of thought into what we should play. I was leaning toward Alegria, Solea and Sevillanias. Let’s face it, I don't know of many students that don't start with Solea. Besides Solea can be played in so many ways, from old style to Vincente.

So here we go boys and girls. Solea it will be, but this time we are going to do it a bit different. We will not be playing to a backing track, but if you want to (as Florian I am sure will), you are more then happy (and encouraged) to do so. I also have no intention of doing complicated editing as Florian did. What I will do is collect the falsetas and blend them together the best I can. I will do all the EQing and final editing.

So Simon, if you want to start a new thread introducing the new group project I would appreciate it. I will add to the thread as to what beat we will play at, file format and my email.

Pat

Patrick -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 22:06:14)

Simon,

I did my above post before I saw the one you just made. If you want to see if you can put something together on the editing, I will back out for now. Like I said, I have no intention of doing this fancy, so maybe someone wants to take it on as a bigger project. Let me know what you want to do.

Pat

Escribano -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 26 2003 22:13:53)

Absolutely not, you go ahead but if we get good at this I will follow it up with Harold.

How do we overcome no backing or click track, just the BPM? Backing percussion may help with the splicing. You may want to confer with Florian on this.

Phil -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 27 2003 2:27:03)

It took me a couple of days to download with a 56k modem, but I finally got it. [:)] It sounds great. Good work Florian. I'll definitely participate in the Solea. I actually did record something for the Tangos, but could't get it to upload. Honest!

Phil

Josh -> RE: Group Tangos posted (Sep. 27 2003 4:06:53)

That was very nice. Props to all involved. And the mix was very well done someone needs to get themselves some turntables
