Just saying Hi!! Been a music fan for a long time but never really got into learning an instrument. Couple of Months ago just browsing through some music channels I heard some Flamenco and it really caught my attention. Its a type of music that just calls to you if that makes sense...

Anyway went ahead and got my Beginners Yamaha Flamenco a few days ago and a book to get me started. Sadly there are no places that teach that style of music locally. So I get to solo learn through books, vids and of course here :)

Welcome aboard!
Skype lessons from someone like Ricardo or ToddK can be a huge help.

Welcome to the foro.

If this is your first time learning an instrument, then, well, WARNING: flamenco guitar is not easy!

Here's a website with some helpful lessons on basic technique:
http://www.flamenco-teacher.com/lss;jsessionid=4100771B51B17CBD33B03D3A3D75ACEE

Also, be mindful of the fact that, more than some other styles of music, flamenco is rhythmically driven. So, in addition to becoming familiar with the different "palos" (i.e. song structures), you'll want to pay extra attention to developing a strong sense of rhythm.

The Skype lessons mentioned above are another excellent resource, as is Jason McGuire's site.

Good luck!

We are two beginning luthiers from Michigan working on our third guitar based on the Hauser 2937. One of us plays blues and is working on Flamenco. The other Paul loves wood working.

I thought the flamenco teacher website is nearly dead. One or two years ago I enquired Ramin for a register problem. I never got a reply.

I can still login and view the lessons I purchased years ago. If there's a problem, maybe Ricardo knows something about it.

I think the format of that site is particularly useful and cost-effective for beginning students. Unlike most sites, it allows a student to purchase a single lesson and work with that for as long as s/he needs.

I wasn´t there for booking lessons but to use the forum. There´s not much frequcency on that community. It looks like it has lost its attraction it once had.

That's partially because some of those who used to participate in discussions on that forum are now here.

Anyway, it's the lessons on that site which I think can be very useful for a beginning guitarist. That's why I recommended it originally.
