View from my window in Alicante - the little building is my new workshop - getting back into guitar building after a long long break..

Our new house in the country,

Very nice!

My brother and his wife share 150 acres in the Texas Hill Country with their daughter, son-in-law and 4 grandchildren. Each of the houses has a 25-mile view to the sunset. There's a creek, hills, oak trees and grassland. There are horses, three or four cows, deer, rabbits, coyotes, lots of birds, the full deal.

I love to visit, but I'm a city boy. Two or three days in the country are enough for me!

I like that little workshop.

City boy... I felt the same way until a few years ago, and for 25 years I earnestly detested leaving the epicenter of the universe, New York City. As I age, however, I really appreciate the country, and found the city dirty, noisy and overcrowded, with an unhappy population. But as I said, it has to be a symptom of my age.

The price of that view is a steep -and I mean steep- hill we must climb to get home! Once there, however, it is breathtaking.

Ruphus -> RE: Whats outside of your window? (Mar. 14 2014 22:32:49)

These are two of a number of lots I took pictures of while considering to settle there.

This is the a ctual view I am looking at right now.
The bright spots on my trees being apricote blossom. Sorts like ironic edelweiss on a crushed Tahiti.

There was a time when I was very proud of being a New Yorker. But as said above, I now love the country, and made California my home. So yes, West Coast, Dude!

Next stop....? Back to my original home, in the old continent.

Would that be Italy?
It has got some really beautiful spots there too. Not to mention the flavors of cuisine!
( Only annoying can be silly machos.)
I have been to Apulia ( had a girl friend from there), Rome ( in childhood. Boy, was it pestered with traffic smog back then! I vomitted in the tramway, with the service ladies jumping on my old lady then [;)]) and in Milan / Lake Como ( quite an eye candy ) and across the border from Ticino.

And I was checking for eventual settling there too, but Italian real estate has become so expensive even yet in remote areas.

California can be quite the place though, and the picture you took looks very promissing. ( Guess you might even have pumas there?)

I am thirsting after rural beauty, however it be good with urban commodity not too far away.

what are those box things?

duende -> RE: Whats outside of your window? (Mar. 15 2014 17:19:59)

it´s small boxes where we grow onions, potatos, diffrent herbs etc
strawberrys.

since the garden doesn´t have a lot of flat ground this makes it easier.

El Kiko -> RE: Whats outside of your window? (Mar. 15 2014 20:39:11)

Ah ok ..i thought it might be flower seeds or something ...its cool growing your own stuff ..if you got the time ....I only now have a small herb garden and a lot of fruit trees .. they seem to look after themselves ...I have apples, pears , plums and cherry...

duende -> RE: Whats outside of your window? (Mar. 16 2014 4:09:27)

I´d realy like to grow apples[:(] can´t have it all can we. Im trying with pears but i guess there won´t be any fruit for another 4-5 years if the tree survives.

I really hope so, then we can see more of you in that wonderful country. We'd love to live in Italy one day.

You mean you never ever go upstairs to any other room in a house and play the guitar ...?
so your guitars are stuck in the subterranean underworld of no sunshine and have vitamin D deficiency ....?

Well if there is no other window possible then photo of your studio i suppose ..it is after all what you see.........[:-]

Absolutely, perhaps this summer we could organize another playdate.

And, Toddk, that was one witty line:
"I'm in my basement studio, which has no windows.
The only windows i have is my computer"

I will definitely borrow it.

Richard Jernigan -> RE: Whats outside of your window? (Mar. 23 2014 1:37:35)

Last spring I spent six weeks revisiting Italy, one of my oldest and best friends in Munich, the ancestral haunts of my family in breezy and cool Norfolk, and the warmer climes of Seville, Cordoba and Granada. Each has strong attractions for me.

But for beautiful scenery, lovely cities and friendly and charming people, the Amalfi coast, Rome, Siena and Venice took the prize.

Spain has a more austere beauty and culture, gripping for me personally, but Italy….such a pleasure.
