Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 3 2014 18:13:54)

(FULL DISCOGRAPHY LISTED ON PAGE 8)

Following on from the last post I would like to clear up a confusing point at this time. Firstly the familiar cover to "Dos guitarras flamencas en America Latina" 1967 PHILIPS pictured below.

Next yet another unlisted LP
"Hispanoamerica con Paco de Lucia y Ramon de Algeciras" 1978 PHILIPS 57 000
This LP contains 6 tracks from "En Hispanoamerica" and 6 tracks from "Dos guitarras flamencas"

Now this was later released as a CD "HispanoAmerica - Paco de Lucia con Ramon de Algeciras" 1987 PHILIPS 832 346-2

Its the same track listing as the 1978 LP. I have had this CD some years and up until today I always thought it was the CD of "En Hispanoamerica" but now I realise its a compilation from the 2 albums. Pretty confusing huh??

Just to reitterate, If you have the CD "Hispanoamerica" it will be this compilation and will have a different track listing from the vinyl "En Hispanoamerica"

All clear now??[:D][:D]

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 3 2014 19:12:36)

2 more unlisted Fosforito compilations with Paco de Lucia.

Fosforito - Asi es mi cante LP 1975 PHILIPS 64 14 659
12 track compilation - see track list for details.
(its not my camera, the cover really is a blurry photo)

Another LP from the series Maestros de flamenco
Fosforito - La Maestria Estilistica (Compilation LP) 1988 PHILIPS 64 29 031

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 5 2014 10:28:29)

Heres another LP with guitar credits to Paco de Algeciras. Its a 12 track compilation of tracks by Niña de la Puebla and Paco. (except tracks 9 and 12 which are acompanied by Ramon)
Mis Mejores Cantes - Niña de la Puebla 1979 OLYMPO LUX-5018

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 7 2014 20:42:17)

Continuing the endless discography... 2 more compilations.
The first is "Noche en el Tablao"1969 FONTANA 701 959 WPY
I was very excited about this record until I realised the track listing is identical to
"Tablao Flamenco" 1967 PERGOLA 50113 B (on the previous page)
Its a re release of exactly the same disc under the Fontana label with a different cover.

EDIT- Having heard this album a few times now, I realise all the tracks are accompanied by Paco and Ramon. Its a great album of real flamenco from that time. I have heard the Zapateado as a guitar solo many times (Montoya etc) but this is the only good recording I have with the baile too. This album really deserves to be released on CD as a great historical recording of Paco.

Next up is "Spain"1974? PHILIPS 6300 119 with some great tracks including El Lebrijano with Manolo Sanlucar and 3 Paco tracks from other Albums.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 7 2014 20:50:16)

Now a couple of nice additions. Another of the Sevillano 1967 EPs
and an ultra rare unlisted 4 trackEP
Palillos, Jaleo y Guitarras - Paco de Lucia and Ricardo Modrego (7"EP) 1965 PHILIPS 436 337 PE

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 12 2014 17:22:39)

Some more additions before going to Sanlucar.
First the cover to the Pacos most famous single "Entre Dos Aguas" 1974 PHILIPS 60 29 261.
However there is also a 7" promo version (not on our list) 1974 PHILIPS 68 32 079

I mentioned the Promo version of Zyryab 1990 that didnt get general release pictured below.
There was also a promo version of the Concierto de Aranjuez (adagio). A double sided disc with the same track on each side.
Concierto de Aranjuez - Adagio (7" promo) 1991 PHILIPS LUCIA-1

3 of the Paco tracks from the Juan el de la Vara EP appear on a fairly hard to find LP.

Also on Cassette 1979 HISPAVOX C 20.169

Another unlisted LP by Rocio Jurado features 1 track with Paco " No se...por que" ( taken from the EP already listed)

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 12 2014 17:39:38)

Covers to EPs already on our list.
Another of the Sevillano 1967 EPs and the Gaspar de Utrera 1966 EP

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 12 2014 18:00:26)

The Carmen motion picture Soundtrack 1994 POLYDOR (already listed) only has 4 tracks featuring Paco but has a fairly complete version of the Bulerias theme from the Opera. Another track simply called "guitar strumming" is a recording of the picado scales he did in one of the scenes.

I stumbled across another compilation. Fairly usual mix of material from the 70s
Interpretando a Paco de Lucia (LP) 1976 GRAMUSIC GM-542

Finally a beautiful cover photo of Paco and Ramon on another unlisted LP
Paco de Lucia/Ramon de Algeciras con acompanamiento de orquesta 1969 PHILIPS 64 29 842
This is simply an Import (or Export depending on your point of view) version of 12 hits para 2 guitarras y orquesta de cuerdas with identical track listing and a different cover.

mark indigo -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 15 2014 20:03:20)

i have queried before about 2 tracks that appear on various compilations, "soleares populares" and "tarantos populares".

I think the verdict is that although credited to Paco they are played by someone else (I'm not been convinced by this).

They are here on this cassette uploaded to YouTube, another compilation....

Apologies if you have already got this somewhere on the list above and I've missed it.

Bulerias2005 -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 17 2014 17:03:41)

I have something new and very interesting for you guys. I was given a CD entitled "Himno de Andalucia por Andalucia, España y La Humanidad", released in 2005, which features Paco on the first track accompanying Fernando de la Morena and El Capullo de Jerez. Enjoy. :)

machopicasso -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 18 2014 9:00:38)

I've just listened to this song six times straight and can't stop. This is great. Thanks for posting this, Daniel.

Sorry, Pimientito, for interrupting this very excellent, high quality thread with my meager comment. Others may be tempted to do the same, so nobody else comment unless you have something substantive to say about Paco's discography! [:D][:D]

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 21 2014 9:51:43)

Mark, Ricardo mentioned something of these tracks earlier. Some were re- recorded and released under Pacos name and some were not. The "tarantas populares" track from Gitana is the same as on the compilation "Guitarra flamenca vol 1." Im pretty sure its Paco playing. The same is true of the "soleares" which appears again on both recordings. However the version of "Entre dos aguas" from the "Guitarra flamenca vol.1" compilation is surely not Paco. It sounds more like something I would have recorded [:D] Its been played by (at best) an average player. I have no idea why the didnt put the original track on it.

Daniel, many thanks and great track!! Thats exactly the sort of CD that got released at kiosks in Spain for about a week and then got sold out and deleted. These sort of tracks are now very hard to find and important to add to the discography. If you can post a picture of the CD cover (roughly 500 pixels square), serial number and track listing I will add it to the main list.

Macho, Im very pleased for the interruption. I was beginning to feel like I was spamming my own thread!! I am hoping that forum members are finding this useful and informative. Any positive input is very welcome. Im starting to slow down on my finds now but there is still lots more stuff out there to add.

that's what I thought. the tarantos and soleares sound like paco, but the entre dos aguas not!

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 26 2014 9:25:01)

Just to tie up a loose end regarding the Festival Flamenco series of recordings.
Ricardo was talking about Festival Flamenco Gitano 1 CD 1994 JAM 9119-2.
This really is a great flamenco album. The energy captured on the recording makes you wish you were there at the show. The virtuoso Palmas, Jaleos and tacon combines with lightning picados and machine gun rasgueos of Paco Cepero.

I tracked down the original LP (pictured below) to complete the Festival Flamenco part of the discography
(Edit - Wikipedia lists this LP as Festival flamenco gitano volume 4. There is no volume 4 in this series)
Gran Festival Flamenco 1969 L+R RECORDS 12L0101

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 26 2014 9:38:41)

La guitarra de Oro de Paco de Lucia1972 PHILIPS 63 41 043 (already listed)
is a double LP compilation of tracks taken from "Fantasia Flamenca", "12 hits para dos guitarras", "dos guitarras flamencas" and "en Hispanoamerica"
Nothing new to add about the tracks...but the cover has a great gatefold photo of Paco inside.

A large version of this file can be downloaded in the attachments Us53675.jpg

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 26 2014 9:59:49)

Another unlisted compilation
Artistas sin Fronteras Serie Oro - Paco de Lucia 1997? PHILIPS 826 406-1 and 63 02 137.
Its a double album. The first disc is a compilation of tracks from the 60s and 70s and the second disc is "Friday night in San Francisco".

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 27 2014 19:20:59)

Ok...this next LP is a live concert recorded in Parc de la mar, Palma de Mallorca in July 1990. It features many artists from the world music scene including a rare live version of Paco performing the Columbiana "Monasterio de Sal"

Unfortunately there is a maddening lack of information about the track other than it was written by Paco. There is a second guitar part which is either Carlos Benevent playing acoustic bass....or could possibly be Canizares doing an impression of the bass on second guitar. The only reason I say this is because some of the picado lines are done in harmony with Paco at the same speed and sound more like a guitar part than a bass part. Either way its a great track and I actually prefer the second guitar part to the version on "Solo Quiero Caminar"

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 28 2014 12:47:03)

2 more unlisted items for the discography. The first is from the Maestros de flamenco series featuring 12 tracks by Camaron and Paco.
El Camaron de la Isla - La magia cantaora PHILIPS 58 65 026

Next up is another compilation. Lo mejor de Andalucia vol.2 1975 PHILIPS 64 29 818
Features 2 paco and Cameron tracks, a Fosforito track and Mantilla de feria (solo)

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 29 2014 19:00:27)

Already listed is the 11 track LP Naranjito de Triana con Paco de Lucia "A Triana" 1970 RCA VICTOR LPM-10416.
I think we have now listed all the Naranjito recordings with Paco. Here is the (slightly scary) cover.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 31 2014 9:50:10)

Another unlisted recording. This is by singer Joan Manuel Serrat.
Paco plays on the track Salam Rashid from the album "Material Sensible" LP 1989 ARIOLA 210092-1
Also a Venezuelan version Material Sensible LP Venezuela 1990 ARIOLA 7306

Here is the track

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 31 2014 10:12:28)

Hmm....there is more stuff by Paco and Serrat on the net than I thought.
Here is a rare live recording from 1979 that I have never heard before.

Sr. Martins -> RE: Pacos Discography (Jul. 31 2014 16:13:59)

Wooow... that doesn't look like a cigarette [:D]

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 1 2014 7:51:53)

As if things werent complicated enough already, I completely forgot to mention that the back catalogue of solo studio albums were digitally remastered in 2005 and released in Spain under the Global rhythm label. I got 6 of them at the time.

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 2 2014 18:06:27)

Couple of updates. First is the cover to the CD compilation "Mi Historia" 1997 POLYDOR 314 539181-2 which we have already listed.

The next 2 EPs are by El Sevillano. The first is another of our 1967 Listed EPs.
However when I did a little more research I found another Sevillano disc with a shadowy figure in the background of the cover...you guessed it, its Paco de Algeciras. This has opened another can of worms finding even more unlisted material with El Sevillano from before 1967.

This EP "Canta El Sevillano" PHILIPS 436 270 PE was recorded in 1964 and is just a taste of more material to come from that time.......

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 4 2014 10:01:09)

2 more unlisted recordings. The first is a compilation LP.
"Dos Flamencos de Oro"- Lebrijano y Camaron de la Isla 1977 PHILIPS 64 29 877

Also an unlisted 7" christmas single of Villancicos
El Camaron de la Isla con Paco de Lucia - La Virgen Maria/Mira que Bonita (7" single) 1974 PHILIPS 60 29 258

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 5 2014 9:24:03)

In our original discography there is a reference to an LP by Niña de la Puebla.
I have found that there are in fact 2 Niña de la Puebla LPs featuring the guitars of Ramon de Algeciras and Paco de Algeciras.
Neither LP is dated but we know that they must come from before 1967 as (according to our own list) Paco was always credited as Paco de Lucia after 1967. Before 1966 he was more often credited as Paco de Algeciras, even though his first solo EP was released in 1964. There is a period between 1964 and 1967 where either name was used.

The 2 LPs are
Niña de la Puebla BELTER 22.511
Niña de la Puebla BELTER 22.014

However there are also a number of 7" EPs. The first I have found is dated 1964 and all the tracks come from the LP BELTER 22.511 so we can date the first album to 1964. The photo on the EP is the same as on the 2cd LP so its likely both LPs were recorded in 1964.
All 4 tracks on the EP are accompanied by Paco de Algeciras.
1. Quejio Lejano (Tarantas) 2. Del Convento Las Campanas (Malagueñas)
3. Te quiero tierra Bonita (Media Granaina) 4. A Mi Que Me Importa (Mirabras)

Niña de la Puebla "Quejio Lejano" (7" EP) 1964 BELTER 51.095

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 9 2014 11:52:39)

I tracked down another album from our original Discography
Los Grandes del Cante 1964 HISPAVOX HH 10 261.
Its a compilation of different artists but only has one track featuring Paco acompanying Pepe de Algeciras - Mira lo que te he Comprao (tarantas)
although Paco is credited as Paco de Lucia in this 1964 LP
I moved it from the category "WITH OTHER FLAMENCO CANTAORES" to
"ALBUMS ON WHICH PACO PLAYS ON AT LEAST ONE TRACK"

Also the cover to the 7" single of "Mediterranean Sundance" by Al di Meola 1977 CBS 5301

Images are resized automatically to a maximum width of 800px

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 9 2014 12:31:08)

And now 2 more unlisted recordings.
The first is a 7"single of Saetas by Fosforito and Paco de Lucia
Fosforito "Saetas" - A Jesus Nazareno / Por Palio La Luna Llena (7"single)1973 BELTER 08.227

But very exciting....another unlisted 4 track Jarrito EP
Jarrito (7" EP) 1964 COLUMBIA 80.926
Algeciras es Poblacion (Alegrias)
Porque me veas con otra (Bulerias)
La quiero, la quiero (Seguidillas) What we would now call Seguirillas
Con el sombrero en la mano (Tanguillo de Cadiz)

Paco is credited as Paco de Algeciras in this recording. This disc is worth getting simply for the Alegrias and the Bulerias on Side A which are 2 exemplary examples of Pacos accompaniment from the 60s. The Rasgueos are like egg whisks and picado lines are beyond belief. The buleria is one of the fastest in the discography. An unbelievable lucky find!!

Pimientito -> RE: Pacos Discography (Aug. 15 2014 10:54:36)

2 more unlisted EPs by Niña de la Puebla with Paco de Algeciras. The tracks come from both LPs 3 posts ago so we can date both Albums as being recorded in 1964.

Niña de la Puebla - Coplas del Rosario (7" EP)1964 BELTER 51.115

Niña de la Puebla -La Semilla del Encanto (7" EP) 1964 BELTER 51.091
