Flamenco Festival at Sadlers Wells theatre in Feb 06 - have booked my tickets for Vicente Amigo! Can anyone recommend any of the other acts that will be playing...?

Well Enrique Morente is considered a Maestro and is sure to have a first class guitarist with him.

Hi James. Not sure about Vicente Amigo - but did you see Paco Pena is playing at the same venue for a 3 week run in April / May.
By the way - belated thanks Kate for the note about Enrique. I'm hoping maybe someone will by me a ticket for xmas - Flamenco is turning into quite an expensive hobby for me!

Actually, no, I didn't... thanks for letting me know! You seem very good at finding out who's playing and where... first Juan Martin, then Amigo, then Pena! Is there some secret website that lists all the Flamenco gigs in London?! [:D]
Anyway, thanks again. Keep telling us when new events are coming up, and let us know how that Juan Martin gig goes (just incase I don't make it down there in person).

My guitar tutor is the font of all knowledge! He's pretty active in the scene, so lots of my knowledge comes from him... Also I'm doing a course in London with many other flamenco enthusiasts! That said I nearly missed Paco de Lucia when he played recently - that was before i took up the guitar (again)! These things don't seem to be widely publicised though.. Anyway, maybe see you sunday!

James, I meant to reply to this earlier. His latest album is Un momento en el Sonido. I have ordered it from South America off eBay so hopefully it will arrive before his concert so I can familiarise myself with it first. Here's an article about it:
http://www.esflamenco.com/scripts/news/ennews.asp?frmIdPagina=337

I bought Ciudad de las Ideas recently and really like it. I find it a lot 'easier' to listen to than some other flamenco - it's one of those ones that you only have to listen to once to get into it.

That said I am not sure whether it will stand up to repeated listening as with some of Paco's stuff (I feel like I have listened to Almoraima a thousand times!)

Yeah, I agree... I bought the Ciudad De Las Ideas DVD and enjoyed it, very easy to listen to. I think thats why some aficionados don't like it so much. I thought it was good, but to be honest I haven't watched it more than about a handful of times, unlike Paco's stuff.

I couldn't quite tell from the article whether Vicente's new album is contemporary/jazzy or traditional, but I'm guessing its traditional. Anyway, it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Might see you down there.

James
