i went down to the local dance centre in my university today to meet a friend and what did i hear someone playing flamenco music, so my curiosity was piqued so i went to the hall.
there i met one of the flamenco dancers from the stage show riverdance teaching a workshop for flamenco(shes from seville,if i remember), we got talking and she asked me to bring my guitar next week, so that the irish students could see guitar and dance together, and i the soft hearted and as well as soft headed fool[:-] that i am agreed. :@]

i've never acompanied a dancer let alone play a piece over 3mins long, and the most i can play well with confidence is soleares,tangos, farruca, and 4sets of sevillanas,(the rest im working, on). i just hope i dont fall flat on my face maybe i cant tell her to follow me cause i certainly wont be able to follow her.[:D]

ah well its gonna be a learning experience.[8|]

Need I say that the best way to learn accompaniment is with a knowledgeable guitarist while playing along with him at a dance class?

A suggestion: Practice chording compas for different palos. No fancy falsetas are needed to begin with. Be sure you keep good compas.

Like everything else in life – enjoy and do your best!

well today was it,

i played and to be frank it was'nt the most rewarding experience, i was just basically beating out rythmn for the guitar and just strumming the chords to the styles of playing, the dancer thanked me but i felt that i really didnt do much to get thanked for except beat out these bars of rythmn.

im gonna have to go to the home of it in spain to get some proper tuition, ah well back to the drawing board for some more fun. ;D

hey , u're lucky to have such an experience.
I'm sure this experience will get you more ambitious.

henrym3483 -> RE: i'm living in fear of next friday (Dec. 2 2005 13:08:38)

ITS A BIG AMBITION[:D]

haha im gonna met a dancer and a guitarist (unfortunately, hes really hardcore pro [:@]), but unlike you i said BEFORE that i cant play much [;)]

actually im dissatisfied with my playing. im going to ask him if he can give me some lessons, though after a research on him over the internet he seem extraordinary busy. hes accompaining different danceclasses in different cities + concerts with his 2 or 3 groups, one of which was even founded by him.

Its really not easy to find someone who plays flamenco around here.. FRUSTRATION [:'(]

Miguel de Maria -> RE: i'm living in fear of next friday (Dec. 2 2005 14:09:15)

Henry,
sounds like a typical job of accompaniament. (damn how do you spell that word?)

henrym3483 -> RE: i'm living in fear of next friday (Dec. 2 2005 17:22:05)

phyrgus,

i said to the dancer that id didnt have that broad a range, have'nt even touched bulerias or seguiriyas, and thats mainly what she was teaching to beginners (which is funny cause its complicated stuff and even they found it hard) , i played for her soleares, tangos, farruca and 4 coplas of sevillanas, and it went down well.[:)]

but when playing for the students she said just give them solo compas,something to dance to and associate with the rythm, i was bored as heck cause she said dont do any fancy falsetas cause they wouldnt understand it.[:@]

XXX -> RE: i'm living in fear of next friday (Dec. 2 2005 18:48:40)

Ok got it [:)]

But hey, thats accompanymiende ... or so. I mean lol thats whats its all about, when playing especially to students who came there to dance. They only need rythm, in fact, it would be bad for them, as your friend says, if they had to dance to falsetas, at least for the beginner ones, i think.
Any compas CD would do the job [:)]

In fact my situation is worse: When i meet the guitarist and dancer there will be no dance students, no beginners if you want, and i even CANT do any *fancy* falsetas.
I just hope that they will be not too disappointed.
Maybe someone has some tips how one can create the impression to the audience that oneself is worse than the playing actually is, how to hide mistakes, how to practice special riffs, chords which are easy to play but sound more complicated than they actually are...
better help me to get some stuff on, Sunday evening is the meeting already [:@]. what can i do?!

Smile [:)][:)][:)] and laugh [:D][:D][:D] Its infectous. And then just do your best. And then tell all of us with dreams of such an opportunity all about it.

Buenos suerte
