Aretium -> Jazz Guitar (Jan. 12 2014 13:00:37)

Ok guys remember when you got the Flamenco bug, I still have it but I know have the jazz bug brought on by listening to Al di Meola (amongst other players) and going to a few jazz bars and gigs.
Im thinking of learning jazz and music theory as I have forever put it off and possibly getting a teacher. Here's the question can i still play nylon.

I think it was Charlie Byrd who showed that nylon strings work very well in many styles. In AndalucĂa, nylon strings are used by many versatile musicans playing jazz, flamenco, Brazil etc.

There's been some great jazz performances on nylon string guitars
Ralph Towner
John McLaughlin
Bill Conners
Laurendo Almieda
Pat Metheny
Wolfgang Muthspiel

Charlie Byrd had a long career using the nylon string in a traditional setting

It lends it self well to Brazilian and Latin jazz
Raphael Rabello
Juan Carlos Quintero
Angel Navarro
Luis Salinas

Even flamenco players have done jazz albums
Nino josele
David cerreduela

Go for it ..there's a strong legacy
