mark indigo -> Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (Jan. 6 2014 16:57:27)

EDIT 28 June 2014: Guitar is now SOLD. Thanks to everyone who expressed interest in this guitar, especially the happy buyer[:)]

I have a Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale.
It is well used, was damaged on the back but was professionally repaired to a high standard.
Condition is reflected in the very low price.
An opportunity for someone to own a hand made by Granada luthier guitar at budget beginner price.
I won't ship the guitar anywhere, but you can come and look and try it out.
I was thinking £750 and you could haggle down, but I'll save you the bother and just ask for £500.
As you can see from the label the year is 1997.
I'm not an expert on guitars so probably won't be able to answer all questions about the finish (French polish?) and woods etc. but you're welcome to try me!
It's cypress bodied and I think it's spruce top.
Definitely machines not pegs.
It has a golpeador..... and strings!
The original (hard) case has lost it's handle, but it is in another old (hard) case with only 1 catch broken - you can have a choice of the two, or just take 'em both.

EDIT: there is now a video at the bottom of the thread, just scroll down.....

mark indigo -> RE: luthier made blanca going cheap! (Jan. 9 2014 21:34:48)

Guitar is still for sale, here is some info about the maker;

Luthier Manuel Fernandez Fernandez

The late master Luthier Manuel Fernandez Fernandez and his son Jose Manuel Fernandez Enriquez (one of the last photographs of Manuel Fernandez Fernandez in his workshop)

Manuel Fernández Fernández was born in Sevilla in 1930. Like many luthiers, he began his working life as a cabinet maker, apprenticing when he was nine years old. He was twelve when he came to Granada to live, and started his long apprenticeship with Don Eduardo Ferrer.

In 1952, he opened his own workshop. Even then, because he his an inquisitive man, he set out to investigate the methods, designs, and ideas used by other builders in Cordoba, Barcelona, Madrid, and elsewhere. He worked in almost every workshop in Spain, even though at times it cost him money to do so, since not everyone paid him. Finally, he reached the conclusion that the traditional system of flamenco and classical guitar construction based on the techniques of Antonio Torres.

José Manuel Fernández Enriquez was born in Granada in 1969, and was trained by his father, Manuel Fernandez Fernandez. Jose worked side by side with his father from 1987 until his death in 1997, and has since taken over the workshop. Like his father, because his workshop is not on a public street, and is hard to find, Jose is forced sell his guitars for less than other guitar makers in order to attract clients. Thus, José continues his father's tradition of building high quality, but very affordable classical and flamenco guitars.

exactly.

I guess I didn't talk the guitar up enough in the original post and/or was too honest about the damage [REPAIRED!!] and wear.

I have had a couple of people interested though. One of them wants me to ship it to the States but I have been too busy to get a quote from the courier let alone source the required bale of bubble wrap....

I changed the name of the thread so I can find it easier when I have something else to post on it.... I found an old vid of me playing this guitar last night.
'cos of the storms and a tree on the power cables we have had the electric off all day, will try and post it up later.

EDIT: I tried to upload vid. it's a MOV file and looks like it's huge, 100MB so I crunched it down to a tenth of that with Handbrake.... but it's still too big - anyone able to help with this?

el carbonero -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (Feb. 17 2014 9:34:15)

Best to put it on YouTube and post the link here. That can handle 10Mb.

mark indigo -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (Mar. 15 2014 18:28:28)

Ok, Guitar still for sale. Still a bargain. I can't put the price down anymore, so if someone doesn't buy it soon I will put the price UP!!![:D]

Seriously, this guitar is a steal. did I mention before the neck is quite wide, 54mm?

plan B, put vid on youtube. You will have to make allowances for playing and "composition" - this was something I was messing around with 10-12 years ago and I think the recording is from 6-7 years ago. I recorded it for a friend who was gonna make a duet part.

also sorry about the over-loud compás track, and the video is really dark, but you can hear the guitar, punchy and strong sound.

mark indigo -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 2 2014 15:49:07)

guitar is still for sale, sorry to people asking about shipping to US, I just haven't had time or inclination to do anything about that.

I figure it's been sat in the case since I bought other guitars to play, it can sit there a bit longer, and sooner or later someone is gonna snap it up

El Rey De los Bagres -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 4 2014 3:12:36)

Do you play electric guitar as well? If you do then maybe you would like to trade it for a brand new 50´s series mex strat?

mark indigo -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 5 2014 11:01:25)

I don't play electric, so no thanks. I don't want to trade. I need to recoup the money I already shelled out on a Conde[;)]

el carbonero -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 5 2014 11:57:04)

is it a famous media luna ?

El Rey De los Bagres -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 6 2014 18:11:04)

Ok it was worth a shot, congrats on your new guitar.

kenjo138 -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 7 2014 20:07:09)

Do you ship to the US?

mark indigo -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 8 2014 20:21:58)

I don't ship anything anywhere, I'm not a dealer, just a player who has acquired too many guitars to actually play them all, spent too much on, yes, a media luna Conde (actually it was a real bargain - I couldn't refuse to buy at the price) and needs to sell off something.

Baki -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (May 18 2014 16:56:58)

rojarosguitar -> RE: Manuel Fernandez Fernandez blanca for sale (Jun. 29 2014 12:48:12)

Even though the guitar is sold now, I can't refrain from saying that the plantilla is very beautiful, especially the part at the neck joint (the 'shoulders') is beautifully rounded (not often to be seen).

And if the sound is anything close to what is to be heard on the first video, I have really big congrats to the buyer...

best
Robert
