Hi Newie here. I am furiously practicing Rasguado's, 2 finger Picado and Arpeggios, from various youtube clips, but Id like to learn some basic actual tunes.

Anyone got some suggestions where I could look, and what to recommend? I love dramatic minor key stuff, and great grooves.
Sorry if im using the wrong terminology, I am completely new and self taught.
Also does anyone know of any good flamenco Teachers in Essex or Cambridgeshire.

I live in the countriside so its a pretty lonely vigil keeping the flamenco flame alive amongst all the folkies and morris dancers!!

Any other players in my neck of the woods?
Cheers

Welcome to the foro and greetings from holland. Be careful not to practice techniques to furiously (especially rasguado) because possible damage of the tendons is always lurking (i teared one once when playing rasgueado 4 hours in a row for a dancer, still bothers me 20 years later).
The minor key does occur in flamenco, but the Phrygian key (like efgabcde) is way more characteristic. You should practice your thump techniques (pulgar) as well. The flamenco style Soleares would be a nice start for studying/integrating above phrygian key and the various techniques involved.

I included lots of (thump) exercises and a bit of soleares in this post (note it contains 2 posts of my hand, you have to scroll up to reach the one i mean).

This soleares is part of a book published by Paco Peña.

Is it Cambridgeshire or Essex?

Adam lives in Cambridgeshire I think and he knows about teachers, players and the Flamenco folks there; it's worth sending him a pm.

Good luck,
A
