Not sure they are magnets?

I think maybe they are simple weights?

[:-]

maybe I went to far,

cause I teach a module called engineering project, looool[:D]

but what do you think , about this idea. to use sttrong magnets?!?!?

keith -> RE: Using magnets to build guitars (Dec. 15 2013 14:43:10)

what would be the purpose of the magnets?

He's using weights to hold the back in place while marking the location of the back braces on the sides. Using weights strikes me as a clumsy way to do it since it could easily shift and throw the alignment off.

I have seen powerful magnets shaped like that, but they were much smaller. These are barbell weights, that's why they have holes in them. Apparently the back is already glued on and he is using them to hold the guitar in place while he cleans up the binding rabbet.

I have used magnets to glue cleats inside of guitars to repair cracks--one magnet on the inside and one on the outside.

ethan--i like the idea of using magnets as clamps!

Ethan, I'm sure you're correct. My question is what is he using a pencil or pen for? I can see the lining and assumed the back was not pressed down tightly in that spot however it could be a binding channel. The other question is why didn't he rout the endire perimeter? I still think weights are a dumb idea though I notice he does have a clamp on the heel.
