Thomas -> ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 6 2013 8:56:46)

as the subject tells...
I want the embedded sheet to scroll in sync with the video
is there a software that I need for that purpose ?
I use Sibelius as my score editor but as far as I know one can not do that with that app....

Thomas

Edit 7. Dec:
Just found the solution using my own brainware [8D]
I'll soon post some links with tutorial Videos I produced with Amir John Haddad

Thank you for pointing me to Lilypond, but I think I found
a far more intuitional way ( at least for me...) of doing it:

1. I rewired Sibelius into Nuendo
2 .Edited the audiotrack of the video with the time warp tool so that Sibelius ran in sync with Amir's playing
3. Screen captured the playback performance of Sibelius with the free screen recorder of Apowersoft
4. Syncronized the files in Premiere et voilá...

Sorry guys, I'll remove it from my channel...found some minor issues that I would like to improve.

Very nice. Thomas, just curious as I am developing some relative software.

Would you pay for a software that does this process automatically for you?

Could you be more specific which of my described steps would be automated ?

The really time consuming part is the transcribing and writing of the sheet in Sibelius, which I do with the mouse... and I fear that this could not be automated.
What I do like about my way of doing it is that all is based on Nuendo.
Once the time warping is done, it offers a lot of options that could be added to the video, for instance those afterwards added perc tracks that I synced to Amir's freely recorded gtr part ...plus I could change every detail of the sheet layout in Sibelius at any time...coloured note heads, coloured tab lines etc...

Naturally you would have to do some recording / playing.

As far as writing of the sheet by mouse, keyboard would also be an option. Also little shortcuts like the scrollwheel altering accidentals of a note, or shift+scrollwheel altering the timing. But yes, this would also be done by you.

The automation would come when joining these two together. I'd imagine there would be a set tempo for the video that would be synced with the sheet.

If not you could "move" notes around to be in sync with the video.

Colors could also be changed.

There would be no need for screen capturing, and the output would be ready to be web-embedded, skipping the need for premiere and uploading.

Sounds interesting...so yes, I would pay for such a software [:)]

Cool, thanks!

It's interesting to learn others processes and how they go about stuff musically -.-

El Kiko -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 13 2013 17:24:59)

Scrollable music as it is played ...you would think it is a good idea ..but after thinking about it ..no ...sorry
as a music reader i would just rather have the tune ...and print it out ...then listen and follow it through .....
the video may be useful to watch , however I dont think i would be trying to watch both at the same time ...

One thing about scrolling music is that if i am reading, as a habit I tend to read ahead a bit ....many of us do this ,,,it is in part so you can be aware of any problems that may be comming up ...like really high notes or awkward passages for one reason or another ,,,.....

Although i do not have to read music professionally anymore , these habits are hard to learn , and hard to break ......

There was a programme i had ...just for music and it would scroll through on screen highlighting the part being played at that moment ...i just found it soooo annoying i had to switch that facility off....

this is just my opinion of course ..maybe others think it is worth the effort or not for whatever reasons they have ....maybe get some other opinions ....

Thomas -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 13 2013 17:34:52)

Well in the vids its actually the cursor that moves, not the sheet...when the sheet jumps to the next bars its more like a normal page break

El Kiko -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 13 2013 18:09:57)

Oh yeah , I saw that ok ... i was just talking generally about these kind of things ,,,,

I think i would just rather have a bit of paper , and a video ....

Arash -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 13 2013 18:12:41)

cool stuff. loved the solea.

ToddK -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 13 2013 20:42:30)

It looks awesome, and i thought, wow killer idea!

But after watching for a bit, i have to agree with Kiko,
i doubt most students will bother trying to read along at those speeds.

Better to just have the sheet on a stand.

do you think it would be better if it could be slowed down / and maybe if there was an entire sheet (not just a strip) somewhere else on the page?

Thomas -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 14 2013 7:53:41)

Thanks for all your input, much appreciated !

Kiko & Toddk, you certainly have a valid point there that can't be dismissed.
When it comes to in-depth work nothing beats a nice piece of paper sheet on a stand...perhaps we should offer a download section for all the correspondent
pdf sheets....
These vids are meant as a first attempt to try a different (multimedia) approach for these mutimedia-based times we're living in...for sure there's room to improve.
So don't hold back your suggestions !

Hallo Arash,
Das wäre sicher ein reizvolles Projekt, allerdings bin ich mir nicht so sicher, ob der DVD Markt in den heutigen Breitband Streaming Zeiten für so etwas noch interessant ist.
Schau'n mer mal....
Gruß
Thomas

El Kiko -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 14 2013 8:35:21)

I hope you dont think I'm trying to be awkward ...
I think that the scrolling idea is good , at a basic level of music .....
because its a 'playalong' type mode it would be great for learning compas's and rhythmn work ...
But above this , as we are now moving up to Amir Haddad's level ..its a different story ...
What the big boys need/use is ....

Looping areas of falsetas to get rid of the problems ...

Slowing down of things ..to make sure you got it right..

Actually Midi is sometimes useful as you can 'scrub' bits of music with the mouse as you double check stuff....and the Awful sound of the midi nylon guitar doesnt have to be so bad nowadays as it can be notes from a real guitar , this depends on software ...

Another thing is comfort ...with the music you can sit pretty much anywhere and not be stuck to the computer.. and i think it is easier to read ......

However good luck with your project ...Anything that Haddad produces is worth studying no matter how it is presented , just have a think , What would you want, to learn some music from John? , apart from him sitting in front of you ....and thats what you produce....

ramon roman -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 18 2013 16:44:23)

Hola Thomas. That is a great way to learn in my opinion as I am a slow learner.
The one thing I can say/ask for, is there can be a way to embed a method of really slowing it down a bit more. I think, until you get the method down in the brain mas seguro.

Thomas -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 19 2013 5:50:05)

Ramon, you can slow down and loop parts of a video with the vlc player.

bernd -> RE: ...sheet music as scrollable grafic in a video ? (now Tutorials inside) (Dec. 19 2013 11:39:15)
