ORIGINAL: chester As for OP - you live in the south. OF THE USA. Not Spain. You're so far from flamenco. It's ok to be interested in it, but unless you're planning on moving to andalucia you're always going to be struggling to 'get it'. Just get a guitar, learn chords, scales, some easy songs (House of the Rising Sun, etc), throw in some Solea and Alegrias falsetas and you'll be happier than you can imagine. Flamenco isn't your end-all-be-all unless you're a gypsy from spain. I understand you've caught the flamenco 'bug', but try to think clearly and you'll save yourself a lot of regrets down the road such as an expensive 'made-for-flamenco' guitar. Paco de Lucia isn't a gypsy and on top started his performing career touring the Americas were he met Sabicas who preferred the states over Spain :-). Grisha isn't exactly a Spanish gypsy as well, nor is Luciano who has incredible potential and is on top of my list of possible future world stars. There are many players around the world that are completely unknown but can play flamenco at incredible levels dude to years and years of serious training. Some of them can make top level falsetas/compositions as well. Sure, spending years in Spain is advisable (mainly the collaboration with singers and dancers) but in my view passion and talent are equally if not more important as the place you were born or to quote turbo: "no dream is too big, no dreamer too small".
