hey come here ...if u wanna have some laughs (on you ),sure Romania is nothing like
Spain ...some ugly comunist cities(some pretty cool).....but there are decent people and tons of humour.
Everybody is a comediant ....i cant play guitar here without someone passing and say
ohhh...el mariachi ....."do u know Metallica Nothing else matters".Doesnt help to say
that u dont play rock ,....they always say "no sabe"(that's a joke,they dont know
spanish.Only the housewifes know...they are watching tons of imported argentinian
,mexican and brazilian telenovelas.We dont use doubleing,everything here has subtitles...
So u learn fast.BTW my grandma is a fan of "the young and the restless".Please
could someone tell me ,when it will be over...I want to watch some football [:@]
We also have your television ...every saturday i watch on a romanian channel
saturday night live with subtitles (not that good but ok).What was I saying ???)
.They all know art...art ...is like
football everybody knows what it's alll about ,right?

Everything annoys me too, Ron.

Tonight my wife and I went out for a night on the town, culminating with opera singer Andrea Bocceli's Christmas concert. One guy behind us loved the concert so much, he kept whistling along...sometimes in tune, sometimes not. Another guy kept talking during the dance numbers. And finally, there was a Russian or other E European family, that just kept talking nonstop--a child and a mother, the whole damn time. I hushed one of them, and it did seem to get better but....the charming thing about Spain was how each person takes responsiblity to make everyone else shut the heck up.

I did enjoy the concert although I would have liked relative silence a lot better to hear the show!

Then bring your guitar with you, and a bottle of Tio Pepe, and everything is fine.[:)]

Well, as usual I'm going to be a bit against the grain. I quite follow what Dave has said so far. I also find that Andalusion cities are quite unbearable, specially in summer. And Granada I sometimes hate (very often) I live here, I even lived in Granada city for a year. I stay away from the cities mostly. They are extremely noisy, filled with low quality clothes shops and stressed people talking in mobile phones all the time, and when you go to a bar in the evening, you can hardly get in, not to speak about impossible to move or to talk. Some like it. Good for them. When I take a break, I sleep in my car in the forest, play my guitar near some river or mountain and visit some small authentic villages in rural areas to do my shopping. A chat with mr. or mrs. something, and after a week or so I'm totally relaxed.[:D]

BTW. The beaches are even worse than the cities.[:-]

I'm with you on that Anders, having escaped London and been a city boy most of my life (Amsterdam was the best to live in, BTW) though Granada makes a nice break from watching the oranges ripen[;)]

Guest -> RE: Almunecar (Dec. 9 2005 11:22:07)

I could imagine Amsterdam to be a nice city. I lived 17 of my adult years in Copenhagen, it's about the same size as Amsterdam, quite international and a lot of art. Wonderfull city.

I enjoy Granada for a slow stroll, a kebab in the sunshine, a beer on a terrase and watching life pass by. What I don't like is when I have to do something in Granada.

Spoken like a true spaniard - manana manana manana ................. (Apologies to all hard working spaniards - I know it is a false stereo type really[:)])

I would like to offer Seville for a move up the league table. Just away from the centre nice quiet streets and lots of traffic free bits. I just can't stand traffic fumes and noise[:'(]

Kate -> RE: Almunecar (Dec. 9 2005 14:13:52)

Ah Anders and that is why you live in the mountains. I set off down to Granada this morning after reading your post, leaving the quiet streets of the Albaicin for the big city. The sun was shining and everywhere happy smiling people doing Xmas shopping ( Do I miss Oxford Street ? NO!!) My mobile rang and I sat in the sun watching the world go by while chatting. I love my mobile. The queue in the tabac was long but the girl there smiled and served me first, je je je, got dirty looks from some backpackers who were shouting "STAMP' at her. She grinned and stomped her feet flamenco style. They did not get the joke. I love this town. Perhaps attitude has something to do with it [;)] you all sound like a lot of grumpy old men [:D]

The cold biting wind, the drizzle hanging in the air when not coming at you horizontally, lots of people pushing buy -- come to think about it just like Granada when I was there a few weeks back[:)]

But I bet you don't get hot chestnuts fresh off the brazier?????? yummy[:)]

Je je je its sunny here now. Sorry you caught the worst of it. The rain never lasts long here unlike London where it is a daily occurrence. I seem to remember seeing hot chestnuts being sold on the streets of London as well as in Granada.

Why?

Guest -> RE: Almunecar (Dec. 11 2005 8:21:10)

Because in summer they are totally overfilled with people, sunoils, surf dudes, showoffs, kites, foldable chairs, etc.[:'(]

Now, they are nice[;)]

Anders be careful, you are sounding like a grumpy old man. I was once a surf dude, those were the days[:)]

Kate you mean that you have chestnuts in Granada? Is nothing sacred anymore
Next you'll be telling me you have fish y chips[:D]

I better stop this. This is not the section for a rant about globalisation and that within 50 years everywhere in the world will be the same[:(]

Je je je fried fish is a speciality of Andalucia, but chips are for tourists and guirris like me !!
And yes Castaños are a speciality in autumn an integral part of the Autumn festival.
