I would advise you to throw Sloane's book away.

I have that from my father's library. What's wrong with it?

There's really nothing "wrong" with Sloane's book. Many contemporary makers got their start using it and numerous others have made successful guitars using it, even if they only made one or two instruments.
Before Sloane's book came on the market in 1966 there was very little information available and what was available wasn't very good. The Joseph Wallo and A. P. Sharpe books come to mind. Sloane opened a lot of eyes.
A number of more complete and detailed books have been published since but most luthiers would agree that there are hits and misses with all of them.
