A few guitars are played and compared in these videos:

Flamenco Guitars

Manuel Reyes 1970, Antonio Marin Montero 1972, Gerundino Fernandez 1997, Arcangel Fernandez 1964

Classical guitars

Jose Romanillos 1982, Luis Waldner 1997, Hauser II 1965, Enrico Bottelli 2000, Ignacio Fleta 1963, Greg Smallman 2006, Daniel Friederich 1982 , Miguel Rodriguez 1986

Classical guitar makers of Spain, France, England

I like the flamenco guitars in the first video, either one, better than the classical guitars in the other two videos.

Thanks for posting.

I was sure I would like each more than the next. And that almost happened; one was horrendous. I used to linger around Delcamp and people would get their knickers in a twist over Smallman.

I only ever heard Williams' recordings and they sounded fine. But, without changing the recording setup maybe the input was too loud? Man, that was a shock. It was like the first time I tried an Ovation. Horrible and nasty.

The classical player was excellent, I thought, and the dealer in the third video is certainly in love with fine guitars; showing immense respect to the builders (and he could play a decent turn himself).

I especially liked the John Ray. Something about it. Like it had a deep resonance, inside the voice, like the resonance in Ella Fitzgerald's voice. Very nice.

Next time maybe they could stick temporary plates on the classicals and compare classicals v flamencos.

Interesting that 'feel' seemed to be a non issue with those guys. It was all about sound character.

Feel, to me, is much more important than sound (if forced to choose and should such a straight choice exist).

Luverly guitars though. Except the abominable Smallman. Perceived loudness seems to have a high price, in a number of ways.

(Smallman makes serious money so I don't think my opinion would hurt.)

I rarely take the time to watch or listen to classical guitar but I thought the third video was excellent.
Mikes Roberts is an absolute gentleman and a guitar dealer of international standing.
I have bought three very high quality Gerundino's from him over the years and it was a pleasure doing business with him each time.
It was great to hear Miles attempt to describe the impossible.
