I think Pepe and Ramon did the palmas. I´ll check the cd cover.

On the album "Castro Marin", he does the same falseta in "Gitanos Andaluces" starting around 2:57. Notice the section in question he does differently so it works out squarely in compas. Compare from measure 12 of the transcription of Tumbona at 1:20 to Gitanos Andaluces at 3:08 to see how he changed it. I believe he was improvising a bit. But another possiblity was a spliced out section of music done by an editor who did not know the compas really. They did really clean splice edits back then. Most folks don't know that Mediterranean Sundance from live in San Francisco was a spliced together performance from different nights.

offtopic: does the word "kiosk" exist in english? really?

Yeah Phrygus,
Telephone Kiosk (Phone box in the street) or a Kiosk selling some odds and ends at a busy station.
It's now an English word.
My German friend was amazed that I used the word "Kitsch" to describe banal crap..LOL!
He said "That's exactly the same word in German!"
I reassured him that it was the same word, now adopted in English!

But i guess the word "Handy" for cell phones will never be adopted, will it?
It a weird creation of word either. I havent found any explanation for it, as it means in english something different. And to make it more odd, only germans are using this expression.

I always find "móvil" for cell phone fascinating in Spanish, it is pronounced "mobile" as in the Alabama town i.e. "mobeel".

I am guessing it's an import. Don't know why I find this so interesting; nothing much else to do when it's cold and the rain beats hard on the window pane - apart from practice, of course.

So 20 freaking years ago Doit noticed this falseta by Paco is totally OUT of compas (9 counts, or short by 3 counts). Luciano popped up on my news feed teaching the cuadrao corrected version that Paco used to do live.

Insane, I've been listening to La Tumbona for such a long time and I had no idea the compás shifted by 3. I know atrafana has a tutorial on it with tabs, I wonder how that's dealt with in his transcription.

Edit:

Orhan added another three beats (repeated 10 11 12) at around 2:55. So you got it right.

metalhead -> RE: Did Paco a compasmistake in la tumbona??? (May 2 2025 19:21:39)

didn't you once mention round here when I didn't know bulerias can be counted in 6. You said, watch out for compas in 3. So why would shorting 3 beats be out of compas?

because the foot tap and palmas equal 6 count modules, an odd 3 makes this "crossed". There is a fun one by Niño Miguel with live Palmeros....watch how they deal with it at 3:20 [:D]. This is repeated on the studio album so he doesn't know or care. Sabicas has one like this, niño Ricardo has several, and Paco at least fixed his.

TeoFlamenco2 -> RE: Did Paco a compasmistake in la tumbona??? (May 2 2025 21:26:40)

When you accompany someone por bulerías with palmas, you clap in 6's 99% of the time. In fact that pretty much feels so standard that it's very odd to hear anything with 3 beats added.

TeoFlamenco2 -> RE: Did Paco a compasmistake in la tumbona??? (May 2 2025 21:28:44)

Hahaha you can see their feet freeze until they catch the beat
