Hey Todd - I agree with what you're saying about the muting or super-staccato. I realized that from the start, but I couldn't fiddle around with doing palm-muting. I did the super-staccato thing at one point and it helped, but it sounded somewhat uneven when I would move to the section with both basses & trebles being played simultaneously. In that bit, he does palm-muting only over the basses and lets the trebles ring to bring them out even more, and I really don't want to mess around with that because it's a technique I'll be using just for this piece, likely. It was very uncomfortable for me to do that and I started to get some pains, so I figured it wasn't worth it. I'm not using finger-picks & that gives Ewan an advantage regarding hand position & thus comfort. I also realized the bit about the wet-dry mix and adjusted that on later takes. This take was effectively done 17 days ago and was not my best, but I've been super busy with work to record another one. Also, I messed around with the pick-up of my Cordoba guitar and probably screwed up the balance of it a bit and have been trying to sort that out. Perhaps I'll record a better take this coming weekend and see what I can get in terms of sound, but I realize what you stated about how Ewan gets the particular sound he achieves. I just didn't feel that it was something I was going to invest time learning especially because it was uncomfortable for me, and knowing that this is just a single occurrence likely where I'll be altering my "flamenco" technique to get such a result, and I felt the cons outweighed the pros. But we'll see in any regard... [:D] Thanks for the feedback!
