Here's a first attempt. Playing an acoustic guitar (with the thin neck) is so uncomfortable!

Cheers!

Take 2.

And another try...

That's a fun song to listen to. I would have thought it was a programmed synth with a guitar sample playing. Sounds like a song that would be easy to remix into a popular dance tune.

And another...

I think one more and I'll be done. [:D]

Hey Romb, one reason you're not getting the same sound
as Ewan is because you need to palm mute the strings.
Or play super staccato with the rest stroke.

You're playing the whole thing legato.
You have to make each note realy short to get the right effect
with the delay.
You also need to turn the delay signal up, and the original guitar
sound down so they're more even.

Ewan is a genius because he figured out the average person
is totally mesmerized and confused by relatively simple Travis picking
patterns, and funny hats.

Amazing..

Hey Todd - I agree with what you're saying about the muting or super-staccato. I realized that from the start, but I couldn't fiddle around with doing palm-muting. I did the super-staccato thing at one point and it helped, but it sounded somewhat uneven when I would move to the section with both basses & trebles being played simultaneously. In that bit, he does palm-muting only over the basses and lets the trebles ring to bring them out even more, and I really don't want to mess around with that because it's a technique I'll be using just for this piece, likely. It was very uncomfortable for me to do that and I started to get some pains, so I figured it wasn't worth it. I'm not using finger-picks & that gives Ewan an advantage regarding hand position & thus comfort.

I also realized the bit about the wet-dry mix and adjusted that on later takes. This take was effectively done 17 days ago and was not my best, but I've been super busy with work to record another one. Also, I messed around with the pick-up of my Cordoba guitar and probably screwed up the balance of it a bit and have been trying to sort that out.

Perhaps I'll record a better take this coming weekend and see what I can get in terms of sound, but I realize what you stated about how Ewan gets the particular sound he achieves. I just didn't feel that it was something I was going to invest time learning especially because it was uncomfortable for me, and knowing that this is just a single occurrence likely where I'll be altering my "flamenco" technique to get such a result, and I felt the cons outweighed the pros. But we'll see in any regard... [:D]

Thanks for the feedback!

Final version.

(Todd, I tried to abide by your advice...)

Cheater hehe![8D] That sponge was a clever move, well done!

I'm curious about one thing, if this wasn't your final version, what would you put on your head next time?

Really cool covers Ramzi, very nice.

Sean -> RE: Time 2 - Ewan Dobson (by rombsix) (Sep. 23 2013 3:45:19)

Always entertaining, Ramzi

ToddK -> RE: Time 2 - Ewan Dobson (by rombsix) (Sep. 23 2013 4:51:56)

Sounds alot more defined Romb.

Are you using a sponge??

rombsix -> RE: Time 2 - Ewan Dobson (by rombsix) (Sep. 23 2013 5:49:55)

Fred, I'll have to come up with something else to put on my head. [8D]

Glad you enjoyed it, Sean.

Todd - yup, a sponge indeed. It makes some parts nice-sounding, but other parts (of the bass bits) not so great. I'm not a finger-style guitarist, but I'm trying to sound as close as can be without having to modify my technique. [:D]

Are you not entertained!!??
Why yes, I was.
thanks Ramzi, I've never heard the original, but I liked your last version. Maybe it needs a dance beat then it's a club hit.

[:D][8D]

On a fancy flamenco guitar, this time. I still suck at it.

All this time I knew your hat in your pic looked familiar but I couldn't put my finger on it!
Problem solved! [8D]
